I haven't been to Sedona in a little over a year but I was wondering what the homes are renting for and how are things in general? I looked at a few sites and the rent seems to have come down.
I would appreciate any info on how things are in general in Sedona. Thanks! |

I don't live in sedona but my husband and I absolutley love it up there so we go up at least once every couple months. We were just up there a couple weekends ago and it seems to be booming a bit more than last year. There are new developments in west sedona but i hadn't noticed that prices went down....depends on the area I guess.

Sedona, one of the highest priced areas in AZ, thanks to Californians.

Hello SummersEve:
Here's a Sedona update for you...83 degrees under mostly cloudy skies. Monsoon season has arrived so scattered thunderstorms have been an almost daily occurrence for the last couple of weeks. As a renter, I haven't noticed that the rents have come down at all. The rates seem to be at the same level as last year, and in a few cases, slightly higher. Of course, your cheaper rents can still be found in Village of Oak Creek, Cornville, or Cottonwood, not in Sedona proper. It's slow season up here. Weekends are busy but the weekdays are pretty lacking in activity. Some business people say that things still haven't quite picked up to the pace they were at before the fire last year. Plus, the construction on Hwy. 179 seems to be a factor as well. People just don't want to deal with the hassle. And contrary to the popular notion, it isn't just Californians driving the prices up. Although I am a renter, as I said before, the condos in the complex I live are mostly owner occupied. The five neighbors immediately surrounding me are recent retirees from: Ohio, Illinois, Florida, Pennsylvania, and Nevada. And in speaking with others that live here, the other units that sit vacant most of the year are second homes for people that live in Phoenix and Scottsdale. The fact is that people from all over with MONEY, retirees or otherwise, are the ones driving up the prices here and anywhere else that is a desirable location. That's your Sedona update for August 2, 2007. |

Sedona is called "Beverly Hills on the Rocks" for a very good reason....however, there really is no mid-range. People are either rich or poor.
Contrary to popular belief, Californians had nothing to do with the high cost of living in Sedona....people who are jealous of those in CA will use that lame excuse they picked up from other posters. It is a pretty area; but due to construction and over-crowding over the last 15+ yrs, it is not the Utopia it once was. Visiting is fine...but to live there, no thanks. |

) my parents would bring us up to slide rock all the time......it was a dirt road to get there because no one knew about it....there was no "fee" to get in or even park. The water was crystal clear and it was very rare that we saw more than a few people there.......now forgettaboutit.......it's just absolutely Ridiculous along with how touristy sedona has gotten....it's a shame because it's such a beautiful and breathtaking place.....nice to visit but like you said "no living there for me" |

I think the last few times I was there I noticed a lot of time share people there. Timeshares seem to bring in a differnt mix of people. Not always good. I'm not saying that about all but there are sometimes the squirrely bunch with ***** packs and sequined base ball caps that you know have a collection of dream catchers and salt and pepper shakers.I know the traffic is sooo bad there. I really feel for the locals because it has to be a nightmare to live there and have to deal with all the tourists. I would have to live on the outskirts.
You are right, Sedona has become over crowded. When you go to a place where there are traffic jams even on the sidewaks, you know you have issues ![]() |

When Jane Russell, the actress, and many other celebrities from CA, several years ago invested and moved into second homes in Sedona and that started a trend of others from CA to buy in Sedona and drove prices upwards to where they are today.
You can ask any oldtimer in the Sedona area and that's the story they'll tell you. And they all mention the majority of investors were/are from CA. I remember when you could buy a lot in Sedona years ago for under $3000.00 in town or a house for under $100,000. Now look at the prices. |

Unless you have A LOT of $$$$, Sedona is NOT the place to live. Housing median in Sedona proper is $710,000
and there are NO good paying jobs, unless you own a business. It is for people who have money and don't need to work.Sedona is BY-FAR one of the most expensive places to live in Arizona. It is mostly wealthy actors, business people, artists and the such. Trust me, Sedona ONCE WAS a nice & affordable place to visit and even live, no longer. For me, I would say 2001 was the beginning of the end of Sedona. |
