I'm thinking of moving to cottonwood. Are there many coyotes in that area? I'm not scared of them but my cat might want to fight and I fear she would lose.
she doesn't roam, 9 years old, stays close to the food bowl. |

coyotes and porcupines and bears... oh my! thanks for the heads up. she's gonna have to stay in unless I go out with her. at least till she understands how far she can go.Do they come to edge of subdivisions, or are we talking more open spaced living? |

I don't know about Cottonwood, but I would guess the wildlife would be similar to what we have here in the Prescott area. We do have coyotes that do come into the subdivisions, especially at night. Many a cat and small dog has lost its life to one. Also, owls can be another enemy of the cats. Around here we have quite a few javelina. I don't think they'd be too interested in a cat, but they do feel threatened by dogs and they'll attack.
Outside of that, I've never seen a bear (although I guess they've been spotted occasionally over the years), and I've heard there's a few mountain lions when you get out in the rural areas. Cats are usually okay during the day if they're outside for a while, but you really need to make sure they're in at night. |

There is nowhere in AZ you won't find coyotes.

I love the coyotes here, they are very pretty compared to the scrawny ones in CA. They appear to be better fed. I love to hear them at night and with all the building, they are moving further out now. I saw one running through Vistancia the other day and she was not in a hurry at all. Just watch your small pets and toddlers. Don't feed them.
