Default Benson.

Anyone here live in Benson? Considering moving there from Illinois, need more information though. How are the schools there? What are the things to do for kids, like are the sports with the schools or the parks? Anyone have a child with special services in school? Have 3 kids, a 19 month old girl and 8 and 5 year old boys. The 5 year old has a speech problem called Apraxia, so needs speech therapy, so how are the special services in the schools as well as in the area, well have him in both private and school therapy. Thanks.

Benson and St. David are pretty small towns without a lot to do for the kids.
St. David has a large population of Mormons and is where my wife was born and grew up so activities there are based a lot on LDS churches.
Many of the kids that grew up in the Benson area complained about nothing to do.
I am not sure what types of services are available to your child there as it's a pretty small area. Here is a link to their school district for you Benson USD - AZ - Home (http://www.bensonsd.k12.az.us/education/components/scrapbook/default.php?sectionid=1 - broken link)
And, as St. David is only some 8 miles from there, here is their district link St. David USD: home
Sounds like you are still working age. Please note that there are not a lot of jobs in that area. Many commute to Tuscon or Sierra Vista to work 35-55 miles depending on where you are going.

We have land out in J-Six Ranchettes (about 10 minutes west of Benson) that we bought for retirement (but we are still here in Seattle at the moment). I can't tell you anything about the schools though. I do know there is a park and a pool. I've posted quite a bit more - which you can find by searching the forum for "Benson" or "J-6".

Here's the link for the website of the local paper:

San Pedro Valley News-Sun | Benson, Arizona

Subie2 lives nearby and will hopefully chime in with more info.

I've heard lots of negative on Benson, OTOH, I have heard lots of positive about Bisbee.

There's not much I can say about the schools since I don't have children. However I do know there's very minimal services here. Not much to do, and not many jobs at all. I live 6 miles west of Benson in J-Six Ranch were LordBalfor mentioned (still Benson) and besides Walmart, some fast food, and maybe Safeway, I commute to Tucson 50 miles for a decent job and any major necessities.

It's a basic small town. Quiet, scenic, and a different kind of living I'm not sure a family with kids would really be happy in. Personally I love the views, cooler weather, and laid back living. The driving everywhere sucks though.

Sierra Vista might be an option for you..I agree that Benson would not. However, for social services, you'd be better off in Tucson...IMO.
