Unhappy Is this a better town for my son?

I am 20 years old and just moved from Cedar Rapids, IA to Arizona. Yes big change. I was used to the heavy snow and cold weather. I have only been here a couple weeks and having second thoughts. My son is 2 years old and i keep hearing things about animal attacks..snakes,scropions, and such. There are great schools and low crime in iowa and Tucson seems so different. I l was raised in iowa and never thought about leaving. I just felt i needed to see what else was out there for me. I am just worried i am putting my son in danger and that is all i care about. P.S The meat here is terrible compared to iowa's!

If only you could bring everything good from Iowa to AZ then the world would be perfect. You have to take the good with the bad. If you want your cake and eat it, then a little reality must sink in because the grass is greener if you take care of it. I hope you can make a nice new start in your life!

I had to laugh about your comment about the beef. I'm from Nebraska, so I know what you're talking about! There are a few good steak places, though, and you'll soon discover which stores have the better meat. We were really spoiled, weren't we?

We moved to AZ about 6 years ago. It has been a really good move for us, and even though I miss all the good folks back in Nebraska, I know I could never move back. I really love where we live in AZ. There's really not many more "critters" here than back in farm country. And you'll be able to sit outside and not be attacked by gnats, flies, and mosquitos. I live in northern AZ, so it's a little cooler here and I haven't seen a rattler since I moved up to Prescott. We were down close to Phoenix for a year, and I did see one rattler. The Forum makes it sound like snakes, and scorpions, and tarantulas (which the tarantulas are actually kind of cool if you ever see one - they don't move very fast and don't really scare me) are everywhere! They're not! You may never even see one, depending on where you live. My husband and I go hiking quite a bit, and I do keep my eyes peeled, but I've never run across anything dangerous.

I hope you grow to love it here, too. The economy is so much better here than Iowa/Nebraska, there's so many more job opportunities and the wage scale is much higher. All the best to you!

Definitely no perfect place to live, Trishizzle.

As far as dangers are concerned . . . there are dangers everywhere. I relocated to Tucson ten years ago and have yet to see ONE dangerous critter other than in the Desert Museum. In fact, I believe the absence of bugs (mainly flies and mosquitoes) would be a healthy plus for a two-year-old.

Your comments about BEEF are absolutely right on and probably will always be, however, CHICKEN tastes good and is probably a little healthier for both of you.

Good Luck

I'm in DETROIT and the meat here is 200 times better than anything I had out west. But then again, the hotties I saw in Tempe and Scottsdale probably didn't get that way from eating red meat. Or if they did, they paid someone to suck it all out of them. Red meat is bad for you.

Default I Love AZ-- Minus the Scorpions

AZ is home now. I think overall its a good community. Now worries about your son. Just watch out for those Scorpions!

I wish the Lacrosse team was named scorpions instead of "The Sting". I have to admit that the scorpion mascot rocks.

If something is bugging you then get the good stuff at welcome to www.PESTPROJOE.com
The Cy-Kick Cs really kicked my scorpions in the ....

So now that we have the bugs gone, I love it in Arizona. Been in my new home for a year now.
