I'd take the route through BHC. You can get on the expressway near MCC and bypass the city traffic. It's really not too difficult a drive as long as your vehicle has the power to go up the summit without slowing too much.

Actually; that 'expressway' is the Bullhead Parkway.......and, has several traffic signals now.

And; that 12 mile long hill on Hwy 68 you described well.......my 2002 Nissan Frontier pickup with a 4 banger/5 spd would bog down from the 65 MPH limit just before dropping back down into Golden Valley.

In the begining that bypass was quicker, now they patrol and ticket ya big time. Plus as the bear mentioned there are lights now.
Thanks for everyone's input. I guess I stated that wrong. We would be living in Kingman and driving to Fort Mohave for work. I'd rather live where it is cooler.

Rambrush they do that in Sedona too. I have seen the trees decorated. It is fun to look at.

I plan on stopping in Oatman on this upcoming trip. I have to see those little burro's

I guess I am to sheltered now days and don't get out to play in the traffic of sedona enough.
The burros are going to want there carrots so ya gotta buy a bag to feed em while you are there.Plus they have old west gun fights in town during the day as well.

Better yet, bring your own bag and save the $5.00 that the locals shops charge.

Great burgers and beer and home made thick potato chips at the Oatman Hotel. The walls are papered in autographed dollar bills.

Here's a shot of Oatman. "Where's my carrot?"

It's been a few years since I've driven it. I live in Glendale now and I occasionaly visit my father in Willow Valley. I've taken both routes and for my money the Golden Valley route is easier than the I-40 route. It depends on your starting point. From the valley the I-40 route may make more sense but if you're already in Fort Mohave then I'd go up over the pass otherwise you're going too much out of your way to get to the freeway. Hwy 95 going through Golden Shores is no picnic either with all those dips in the road plus you can only go 45mph most of the way.

Yes; the traffic signals were installed along the Parkway in either late 2005 or 2006.
