Still doing research but found something interesting. In any event nothing beats actually going down there and checking for yourself. We were there last month and hubby is going down this fall to stay awhile and ask questions in a few places.

In Kingman, they will freeze a senior citizen's property tax, providing the person is the main homeowner and resides in the house 9 months out of the year, lives there for two years, and fills out the proper paperwork.

Well oops. Guess I should have said the county instead of the city of Kingman, as you can tell from the link.

That's not what I asked. Let's try that again. You said this:

I simply asked you if that was in Kingman. Since this is a thread about Kingman, your answer could give people the wrong impression as that figure doesn't sound right for this town. So yes or no, was that in Kingman or not?

I can't simply say yes or no. As I said, I've been looking all over Arizona, including Kingman, and I've been seeing taxes up to that figure, but I can't remember off the top of my head what towns had the highest figures.

I'm just surprised in general at how high property taxes are in Arizona, especially since Arizona also has a state income tax. I didn't expect property taxes to be as high as I've been seeing, in a state with a state income tax.

tnp - curious as to where you're getting info from? Might be another source for me, thanks.

The Tax Foundation - Map: Property Taxes on Owner-Occupied Housing by State

Not current, but there are lots of links to look at for various perspectives.

I've been looking at realtor sites like realtor.com. There is a "property history" tab that shows sales history and property tax history. I went to that site just now and specifically put in Kingman, and it seems taxes in Kingman aren't quite as high as some other parts of the state.

tnp - I've pulled up quite a few houses for sale in Kingman and looked at the history and property tax paid. It apparently depends upon which area you live, some are dirt cheap, some are more expensive in property tax. It doesn't appear to be age related of the house, the sf, or anything of that nature. Until hubby gets out there and checks, I think it just depends what area you live in (ie a new development etc.). I am pulling up houses in the 1400 sf size range, with 3br and 2ba.

One thing kdog is very correct on - property taxes were reassessed apparently two years ago, and have decreased each year since 2009.
