Am I Kidding?
Well, yeah actually, that was supposed to be tongue-in-cheek. Arizona is the home of Bary Goldwater, after all, and is consistently Republican in its voting patterns. And yes, some people are defined by their politics.
I'm glad to hear that AZ is perhaps not as red as I thouhgt. I am a Democrat too, and a pretty liberal one at that. I had worried that I might have to lay low after moving there, or become a target.
I still might. I looked up Navajo county, and they are not exactly a bastion of progressive thought...

Moving To Bullhead City!
I have checked out just about everything I can regarding the BHC-Laughlin area and this seems to be a good spot to relocate-semi retire. I lived in Phoenix for 7 years, so I think I understand the heat and its repercussions. The river and some Laughlin fun will be welcome. Compared to the rest of AZ and the southwest, this area has its good points and some not so good points--just like everywhere else. Moving from Madison, WI the mountains and off roading will be GREAT. I certainly welcome any additional comments or suggestions.
Happy Howling

I believe you need to stop the meth problem at the start. If you do what you want then there will be even more laws for more people to somehow get put in jail. Then you would end up with the problem like cali. has with guns. If you put to many arms laws then everyone will be against you. If everyone is against you then most will break the law and own guns (it is our right as citizens). Now more people are going to jail for defending themselves and the real criminals have really big guns and full auto guns.
I believe of enforcing the laws you have before you make more laws.
Arizona is full of meth but before you outlaw your kids from going to the store to buy there grandma laundry soap. Sart enforcing the laws there is.

It's so hot that you have to be on drugs to live here! Bullhead City is the worst in the state.

Bullhead Woes
Am a long time frequent visitor to Laughlin,so have a pretty good feel of the area.Have an old pal that retired in BC,a source of info.Would never ever consider living in the area.Besides the obvious burden of heat, the very high crime rate is a major concern. As others have stated,my friend confirms that a very severe drug problem exists with theft and breakins commonplace.Going up the hill to Kingman does not help, they have a crime problem just as bad as BC does,so you get robbed in 10 degree cooler weather. As for bugs, about five years ago the area had a huge grasshopper plague for a short time.Casino employees that I knew were telling grasshopper stories right and left.Perhaps residents can fill in a few details on this.

Love Bullhead!
We have had a vacation home in Bullhead for about 28 years now and absolutely love it! It does get really hot in June, July and Aug. starts cooling down some in Sept. Winters are cool and windy! We spend as much time as we can there, usually every other week and plan on retiring there. Lots of growth going on now some big restaurants have come in and some big stores, Home Depo and Lowes is almost done. Home prices have really gone up! If you like the outdoors there is plenty to do. They are really trying to get the dopers out. In 28 yrs of being a part timer, never been broken in to. Crime really isnt as bad there as it is in So. Cal.! Hope this helps.

If you don't talk about politics, you won't have a problem. You know the saying about politics and religion. I have lived here for 20 years and don't talk about either subject. If you can't keep quiet, you will have a problem!

moving to bullhead
I recently bought a house in bullhead in March and will be moving up there in a few days. I was really excited and still am, but reading the messages about the area were somewhat depressing. I love the heat and did spend much of the summer up there...so that doesn't bother me, but for those of you that do live there, can you tell me anything you do like about living there?

AZ does not consistently vote Republican. This was a Clinton state. Has a Dem governor and is the home of Bruce Babbitt, the well-known environmental activist as well as Goldwater. And Goldwater was no modern-day social conservative either. Party registration is close and independents are a very large group. AZ is made up of people from all over the US (and Mexico ) and reflects the political values of the areas they come from. There's a lot of fiscal and limited government conservatives here who vote Rep. But this is not a bible-belt conservative state by any means. It a pretty moderate place actually.
