Bear in mind that it is cheaper to move TO the UK than it is to escape it if you don't like it here. The cost of gasoline is much more expensive here. The cost of a litre of gas in the UK is the same as you pay for a gallon in the States. A few more things to seriously consider...
- Anti-Americanism is running HIGH in this country. One American woman was even attacked on the Tube in London and got a black eye. An American family was recently on holiday here. Their 12 year old daughter was wearing a "USA" t-shirt and a Brit spit on her. We had to move from our first house after 9/11 due to threats and anti-American sentiment. My son was attacked by a gang of Muslim youths and the police would do nothing because they would be accused of being Islamaphobic.
- The schooling in the UK is appalling. You do NOT want your American children educated here. It is un-PC to teach British history in the schools. It is un-PC to teach about the Holocaust. Instead, the teachers are teaching the children how great the Middle Eastern countires and their histories are. Someone mentioned that the education in the UK might be better. WRONG! Every class assignment that my son brought home, every report, etc... was full of spelling and grammatical errors by the TEACHERS! Teachers have no control in the classrooms. Violence is rife. Children are taught Religious Education in the schols, with an emphasis on Islam. Unlike American schools, parents are NOT allowed in or near the classrooms and seldom ever meet the other students or their parents and no rapport is built up with teachers. No school dances, no proms, no interscholastic sports, absolutely zero school spirit, no graduation ceremonies. Children "graduate" school at age 16 and are very ill-equipped to deal with the adult world. When my son was first enrolled in the UK school system he was already 3 grades ahead of everyone of the same age group.
- The UK is one of the biggest breeding grounds for Islamic / Al Qaeda terrorists. Most of those responsible for 9/11 were born, raised and trained here in the UK. There is a reason London is now called "Londonistan." Prince Charles believes that Islam is the way to go for the UK. That spells BIG TROUBLE for indigenous Brits.
- The NHS (National Health Service) is a frightening mess. My husband and I are both finally recovered from a virus we caught while just VISITING someone in the hospital. Within hours of the visit we were seriosly ill and remained very, very ill for 5 weeks. UK hospitals are very dirty, nurses and doctors rarely wash their hands or wear gloves before examining a patient and they are very poorly trained. Nurses often scrub toilets and then care for patients right after, without even changing their uniform.
- Jobs? Don't count on any type of steady employment. The employment situation is very dismal, especially for Americans. Six years here and I STILL can't find work. Brits feel threatened by American employees so do not wish to hire them.
- Crime in many areas of the UK is far worse than anything you will encounter in the United States. There is no law and order in the UK and criminals are given more rights than victims. This is a FACT. An 11 year old boy was just shot and killed because he was caught in the middle of feuding gangs. Guns ARE used for criminal purposes in the UK. Only non-criminal citizens do not own guns.
For the safety of yourself, but especially your children... STAY in the USA! Once we get back we will NEVER live in the UK again.

WOW!
Talk about a 180 degree change compared to even 30 years between the USA and the UK-------if even 1/3rd of your info is accurate.

My information is very accurate. Even my husband, a native Brit, is embarrassed and ashamed of his birth country. The things I have mentioned are just a few of the drawbacks here. Most of Europe is also very anti-American and Brits and Europeans are very happy to insult you to your face for being an American. They find nothing wrong with it and can't understand why we would find it offensive. On a nearly daily basis I deal with being forced or knocked off the sidewalk by Muslim males and females, who feel that the rest of us should give way to them in this country and the government backs them up. They are quite open about declaring that they will turn the UK and Europe into a united Caliphate under Shariah law within the next 20 to 30 years. Prince Charles is backing and helping to fund the building of Mosques and the take-over of Methodist churches to be used as Mosques. Whole housing estates (neighborhoods) are being built to accommodate those of the Muslim faith, including making sure that toilets in these new homes face away from Mecca. Hotels have been forced by govenment to make many of their rooms more "Muslim Friendly" which has required costly changes. Teachers are forced to halt lessons at certain times of the day so that Muslim students can pray.
This country is a mess and I become more frightened of living here with every day that passes. One of my next door neighbors is selling her home but she is so worried about my safety as an American that she is trying to avoid selling it to a Muslim. The house on the other side of me is owned by a Muslim. They rent it out for a year, and then at the end of the year sell it on to one of their relatives, and the cycle continues. When the house is unoccupied by renters my husband and I have both heard strange activity going on in the house at 2:00am and 3:00am, but the police say they cannot go in and investigate without the permission of the local Muslim imam or community leader.
This American girl will be ever thankful to move back to the safety of America!

Interesting.
Here in the States many of the people from Mexico have that same basic mentality.........witness the illegal immigrants demanding their 'rights' a year or so ago in their rallies.
Suffice to say as a nation (both 'Anglo' and 'Hispanic') we are waking up and are deporting 'em.
If we as a country are that addicted to the labor of the illegals------we do not deserve to exist.

I fully understand the problems which are being encountered due to illegal immigrants. I remember well some of the discriminatory practices which favored illegal immigrants above the rights and needs of Anglo, African-American and Hispanic citizens. But with all due respect, that problem is very minor compared to what is happening throughout Europe and the UK. As you've stated, Americans will only tolerate so much bulls**t and then they'll fight back and demand action. The British and Europeans are very, very different and prefer the "head-in-the-sand" method. If they don't acknowledge a problem it will eventually go away on its own. If my own American government had informed me that I would be going to a country full of Islamic jihadis I would NEVER have come here. If the INS had been truthful with us instead of telling us lies I would not be trapped in a country which is hostile to Americans.
Before any American decides to move to the Europe or the UK, or even just visit, I strongly suggest that they first read these books:
"The Suicide Factory: Abu Hamza and the Finsbury Park Mosque" by Sean O'Neill
"While Europe Slept: How Radical Islam Is Destroying the West from Within"
by Bruce Bawer
"Londonistan [NEW UPDATED EDITION]: How Britain Is Creating a Terror State Within" by Melanie Phillips
To put it in simple terms, the current belief in the UK and Europe is that the United States "deserved" the 9/11 bombings. In the urban areas of France, on the outskirts of Paris, white French girls and women now wear veils when they go out to protect themselves from being raped or beaten by Islamic males. The world is going crazy over here in a very bad way.

Three quick differences that I can see here:
#1: a person born here is automatically a US citizen------talk about taking an incentive for the children of immigrants (legal or illegal) to not join extremist organizations.
#2: despite the so-call 'Political Correctness' crap; there is tremendous 'soft' pressure here to become American. Maybe due in part to the use of one language (English) coast to coast I am not sure.
#3: so many of us have guns (and will use them) that it would be 'open season' on a bunch of especially Islamist idiots if they pulled something stupid. When it gets right down to it: terrorists tend to be cowards if they feel there is an outside chance of being caught and destroyed.

We are thinking to do the same thing, neither of us are UK citizens. UK offers more as far as healthcare than the US or AZ for that matter. I agree with the previous poster and if possible go there for a visit and see how your DH likes it.
We would also be going on savings alone and on a student visa in hopes of finding work and converting that to a work visa later. Its a big decision.

Problem is that it is UK born Muslims who are training to be terrorist and then attacking the very country that provides them with housing, cars, food, benefits money, free education and health care. They are allowed to freely travel from the UK to Afghanistan, Pakistan, etc... to train at terrorists camps, and then return to the UK to teach these methods to so-called disaffected Muslim youths. Its ridiculous!
Its good to know that some pressure is being exerted in favor of becoming American. Its more than they do here. Segregation and "multicultural" communities are encouraged, as opposed to integration with the indigenous culture.
I do miss my guns! Since this is considered a "multicultural" society, where the rights and culture of immigrants are supposed to be encouraged, I think it only fair that I be allowed to carry a gun in the UK, since it IS part of my cultural upbringing!

Im not trying to come down on you, but stand up for yourself!!!! Dont let them push you around! You have every right to be there as they do, regardless of race/religion/etc. If they push, push back! If they run you off the sidewalk, return the favor. Its time for people to take a stand, especially in their home country!

I'm sorry, but this myth about UK health care offering more is really a load of rubbish. You've heard the old saying "You get what you pay for?" Well, that applies in the UK. As an American I am totally horrified with the extremely low standards of hygiene in the UK hospitals, as well as the below standard care. I've seen hospitals in Mexico that are much cleaner and with better qualified doctors. Medicine in the UK is very "third world country" as far as standards. NHS inferiority is not limited to its hospitals. It also encompasses family GPs (General Practioners), specialists and dentists. I've already told people here my medical and dental horror stories, and daz, a Brit who is immigrating to AZ, has backed me up on the problems in the UK. At this moment I am waiting to settle a lawsuit against the dentist who ruined ALL of my upper teeth and most of the lower ones as well. This suit has been going on for 3 years now. You cannot even BEGIN to comprehend the horror you are in for when it comes to being a patient of a socialized medicine system. Have you even read up about the MRSA cases that are rife in this country? Have you done ANY sort of indepth studies on the REAL situation with health care in the UK? I suggest you do so.
I also urge you to seriously read up on the unemployment situation in this country. If you think London is the answer, forget it. Housing for one will be a major problem. The places where you would like to live will be unaffordable or unavailable. There is a 10 year waiting list to aquire a house or flat in the decent areas. The areas where you could get a place quickly and cheaply are not places that any American in their right mind would wish to live in and it would most likely be a very dangerous and unsafe area. London is the most expensive place to live in the UK. In the north it is a bit cheaper but this morning's newspaper has stated that there is now an 8 year waiting list for obtaining housing. Jobs also pay up to 3 times less than those in London.
Do you honestly think that you can get a good "feel" for a place just by visiting it? ROFLMAO! The only way to get an accurate picture is to stay for 6 months to a year, when the rose-colored tint has worn off.
Of course, if someone is the lazy type who prefers to live off of the benefits (welfare) offered by the UK, then this would be the perfect place for you. Many people come here just for that reason...to get a free ride since the UK is a very "easy touch" for lazy people.

Hey Steve-O. Trust me, I DO push back! You don't think this American girl would allow any Muslims to push her off the sidewalk, do you? LOL! I must say that I have been a good influence on my husband, his mum and his sister, because they push back now, too! I just tell them to stand their ground and make THEM walk around. I won't repeat what my son said to one of them yesterday who made a rude comment about 9/11 and then snickered. If I repeat it I'll probably be banned, LOL!
