I had an independent agent for years and the rates kept going up. Last year the rates jumped again and so I did some checking on others. I ended up with USAA insurance and saved a ton of money with better coverage on the car, truck and house. I’ve had the USAA now for a year or so and can’t complain. They’re good for rates in my area and I’m happy to be with them.

USAA has coverage for any honorable discharged serviceman/woman now instead of only officers or military retired. They also cover those who are employed as police, homeland security and others.

I've had The Hartford for both vehicles and my home for about ten years.

Whenever I go shopping, none of the reputable companies come close.

Good Luck

I thought you had the State Farm people you referred me to in Tucson. They have been very good for me.

I go through an independent insurance agent and have used Met Life Home/Auto for years, (with no rate increases). When I plugged in the numbers myself at various companies online, the rates I got through my agent were the best by far. I've been very pleased with his service too, although I can't comment on the insurance company itself. (Fortunately, I've had no claims.)

If you would like his name and #, please send me a DM.

The cheapest is often the one you are with because they give you discounts for accident free years etc that the others don't. I got a quote from USAA last year just to see and it was way higher than I pay with State Farm.

I'm going to add one more thing to this thread. It's not just about the cost of the insurance. When you need it, it won't matter what each months' premium cost you. ALL that will matter is that they take care of your damages, which may also include medical and legal claims.

And that's the primary reason I've stayed with USAA for more than 20 years. Nope, they are not the cheapest. And yes, I have compared. But whenever I've had to file a claim (auto and homeowner's), they have been quick, efficient, thorough and flawless. They even chased after an uninsured motorist who hit my husband's car in a parking lot and drove off (after DH obtained the license plate number). That's more than the police dept. did.

That kind of service is worth paying for, IMHO. How much extra is a personal decision.

Insurance varies company to company and state to state.
Some also prefer older drivers an dsome will not insure some cars like performance cars.
I won't do business with USAA as they would not take enlisted military when I served. It was officers only at the time. Paybacks are hell.
I dumped State Farm when they would not allow me to get rid of a terrible agent that did not do his job over and over again. For example I used to change cars often and I would call him, give him the vin and info and he just never added the car resulting in me getting threats from the bank that financed the car for not adding insurance. Stupid.
I won't do business with several due to past experience with claims and that's the true test of an insurance agency to me. And you won't know until you have a claim that needs taking care of.
We have Geico and have good rates and got good claim service for the one accident I had.
The only other company that beats their rates was the Hartford but not by much and then I had to be a member of AARP (not going to happen) and take drivers coruses for my wife and I that the cost for them exceeded the savings for the insurance with Hartford over Geico.
