Thats what someone from NY told me when i said i was going to the S rim but it was the most amazing "hole" i ever seen.
But that meteor crater looks like just a hole. Why is it that, thats the type of place you expect a metor to hit? I mean im glad its not Phx or Nyc but its almost as if it were planned.

Um, Phoenix and New York City didn't exist 50,000 years ago when it hit.

You may have seen Sunset Crater which is just NE of Flagstaff, thats a volcano. Meteor Crater is about 40 miles east of Flagstaff, a big hole in the ground from a meteor that hit about 50,000 years ago. Astronauts trained there at one time.

I am sensing a bit of faceciousness. Being north, I believe he is referring to the Grand Canyon. It's that NY-think. Nothing impresses anyone that is from the Big Apple. I took my BIL, who had lived in Manhattan all his life. His comment on seeing the gGand Canyon for the very first time in person, in his thick accent, was, "Ya know we oughta do. We oughta bring down all of New Yawks gabage, dump it in this whole, pave it over, and put up condominiums."

Yeah my BIL is a funny guy. Meteor Crater is much more impressive from the air. I have pictures taken from the "Visitors Center" that I could post, but it just looks like an unimpressive hole. What threw me off was your direction from Flagstaff you said about the hole. You said north. Meteor Crator is ESE from Flagstaff.
