I've been going to Bisbee for a dozen years and my impression is that none of the stores there have gotten any new inventory in that time. Most of them appear to be too cash poor to improve and don't seem to care if you shop there. Half of the time many are closed or out to lunch. I like Dot's and the Hot Dog place on 92 by the Safeway is the Best in Arizona though. I drive to Bisbee just to have a Hot Dog and then hit town hoping, in vain, that it has done something to improve.

I'm aware that the employment there is not great, but neither it is in the other discussed places. The climate is wonderful (they're at elevations of 3,000+ and 4,000+ feet) and the scenery is quite beautiful. Not sure about real estate... It might be on the pricey side nowadays. Rentals are probably not plentiful. Either their marketing is not working or they're not particularly interested in new residents!

I know this is an old posting, but I am interested in Bisbee. I am searching for any info of the family of David P Smith. When I met him he was called "Bisbee" because he was from that city.
Any info plz, let me know.

Sounds like a perfect place for me to move to.

Bisbee is a nice illusion, charming even, untill you have to pay rent, deal with the meth heads, nazi law enforcement agencies, inflated real estate, can't drink the water from the tap, lazy con artists, self absorbed shop owners, rip-offs, power mongerers, elite hippys, yuppiy shop owners, weird politics, drunks, potheads, and hippy wannabe's.
Go visit but don't stick around....there is a dark energy there that clings to people.

Yes, I agree with above. When I went to H.S. in Buena back in early 1970's, Bisbee was our beautiful getaway. I LOVE BISBEE. My Mom worked at the Copper Queen Hospital. I think it will always be a small not really growing that much hideaway - and perhaps that is just the way it should be. Now, most Bisbeeites I know did move away like above poster, get educated and moved back to retire. I think that is the age group most happy in Bisbee. However, I agree that compared to Sierra Vista, the beauty, elevation, mountains right there in town practically and colors of the surrounding town were unsurpassed. Did I note the history? Oh yes. (Gee this makes me want to go back and visit..

mzbea - I agree some of those elements exist as well as a strange atmosphere that did hang over the place. I will honestly admit that. However, the drugs, problems with streams of illegal immigrants, cliquey law enforcement that does whatever they want, etc. exists right up the road in Sierra Vista where I grew up. It just always looked bigger and nicer - it really never was.

Well SV isn't any great place either but Bisbee surpasses SV with its very deeply disturbing psychic and spiritual energy. Reminds me of a beautiful cake that once you see whats under the icing, you KNOW you shouldn't eat it.
Best thing I ever did, getting away from there. Yeah, I will retire...but not in Bisbee.

Your analogy seems to apply to other (usually older) small towns as well IMHO. Kingman, Az is a milder version of Bisbee but it is changing for the better with all the Californians moving there. Note; the ones who move there are not exactly 'Libs' either.
Now for weird: despite its beastly summers, Meth problem, etc. Bullhead City is not a bad place to live since it has the rep of a 'clean' government/business community.
