Where in AZ are you coming to, or don't you know yet?

You are planning to move into a shelter when you arrive in Arizona?

Not to be heartless, but may I suggest you stay in MI with family until after you have the baby, then leave the baby and the 13 year old while you go to Arizona? Then, AFTER YOU HAVE SECURED A STABLE JOB AND A DECENT PLACE TO LIVE, move the kids down to AZ with you?

Sorry if I have offended anyone.

Coming from Michigan to the AZ desert in June when the weather will be over a 100 degrees for several months will make you miserable, especially carrying a baby then. You need to acclimate slowly and to do that you should come here in the cooler months, sometime after October, and slowly adjust.

I have to let you know that I would not agree with your move what soever. I am from Philadelphia Pa and my name is Joe and I am 37 and have a bachelors degree expreince and had a miserable 18 months when I lived in Arizona. I would not recommend you making such a big move especially without money and being a single mother. I would be more than happy to give my my email adress so I can go further in detail why I feel so strongly about that decission.

Karessa, I know you want out of Detroit, probably in the worst way! However, I would not advise making a move to AZ without a job or some way to support yourself and your children. AZ is a wonderful place, but I think you need to plan your move a little better or else it could become a nightmare very quickly.

Please do not think that will be sufficient to survive on. AZ is much different than a lot of states when it comes to that sort of thing. Don't want to burst your bubble, but also don't want you to leap from the frying pan into the fire! Good luck!

Excellent advice. Anyone (particularly with children) considering a move to Arizona on such a shoestring that they consider "shelters and government programs" as options, is courting disaster. Detroit is probably a nightmare, but moving your family across the country with no game plan is simply not prudent.
