Hello all

Been lurking here for quite a while and thought I might finally seek out advice.

I am moving from Oregon to Texas the first of July.

I will be driving a 26' penske truck. My friend and I want to make a visit to Monument Valley and get some good sunset or sunrise pics.
(We are both amateur photographers)

Any advice on what route to take and where to avoid? We aren't looking for out of the way once in a lifetime shots just some good breath taking views.

Cheers
Danbert

Head north on Rte 89 at Flagstaff off I 40 and then go east on Rte 160.

I'd then hit "4 corners" literally and cut over to Durango,CO and then head south from Durango through Farmington,NM down to Gallup,NM and hop on I 40 at Gallup.

Thank you for the reply. I guess I should have put my intended route on here. We will be coming down I84 from Oregon into Salt Lake City. Will cut left at Spanish Fork and come down through Moab.

Monument valley best part is in Utah. It is not that great from the highway. Your best bet is to get a guide and go back in toward the formations. You will go right through it coming south from Moab. Actually by the time you get there you may have your fill of beautiful vistas. SE Utah is awesome. Just take 191 south out of Moab and then 163?. It is not hard to find.

in a (loaded?) moving van, you will have some slow uphills in spots with impatient cars behind you at times, so be ready for that....

avoid UT 261 N of Mexican Hat as it is unpaved as it climbs/descends the Moqui Dugway, but is spectacular, otherwise....

all kinds of campers, RVs trek the paved highway thru Monument Valley, so your moving van should be OK....if possible, plan to spend a night in the area to get your photos....a couple hotels and campgrounds are in the area plus Kayenta has more services several miles south.....

lots of two-lane roads, so plan some extra time getting thru the region
