I live in Arizona and we do get scorpions. They are quite aggressive and have a tendency to rush at people in order to sting them. We get the house sprayed every month but the scorpions are very resourceful and a few manage to get in despite this. I recommend keeping an aerosol of hair spray handy at all times as well as a shoe to hit them with.

We also have a flying javelina problem.

Don't forget the jackalope problem.

I don't think the hairspray is killing you unless you are breathing it in, or you breath through holes in your shell.

I step on scorpions too, although my dogs love to play with them. Sometimes they find them before I do. I'm sure they've been stung many times but it doesn't seem to affect them.

Don't let the possibility of seeing a scorpion influence your decision to come to AZ. Scorpions and other stinging bugs can be found all over the world.

My wife has been stung by bark scorpions twice, once was in a shirt she was putting on and another time when she reached into the washing machine.

First time we actually called poison control since new worrisome thing, they said usually not a problem with adults so just keep an eye on her. Sure enough she had no significant problems, although her arm did get kinda numb. Was fine in a few hours.

Don't sweat it.

I'd worry more about their sting than their bark.

Seriously, we only had a problem once when my son's cat picked up a scorpion and dropped it on my son's chest while he was sleeping. It was sort of like a bee sting. That was when he lived in an apartment that had a huge gap under the front door. Also, more recently when we were digging a utility trench my son saw a couple but didn't have a problem with them.
