Yeah. The law requires them to check, but if someone admits to being here illegally all they can say is "Bienvenidos a los estados unidos".

Well, the purpose of the law was to scare the illegals into leaving the state and it may still do that. If AZ was seriously interested in stopping illegal immigration into the state they would enforce the e-verify and employer sanctions law that HAS been found constitutional by the Court.

I'm pretty sure if you admit to any violation of federal law, the police could still detain you.

I think the issue is now if they ask someone for proof of citizenship or visa and they don't have it, the officer cannot arrest and detain that person without assistance from DHS in verifying immigration status during the course of the traffic stop or whatever.

Now that the AZ police don't have DHS assistance, the officer cannot arrest on suspicion of immigration violation.

Governor Brewer should be given a HUGE RAISE for her efforts in doing what is right. Far too many politicians, both locally and in Washington all the way up to Obama, are nothing but VOTE Moderator cut: language who will do and say just about anything for the God Almighty Vote.

Thank God we still have a few Jan Brewers out there that are willing to represent the honest, law abiding citizens.

Overall, I'm not the biggest fan of Jan Brewer, and I have a few reservations about certain parts of SB 1070. However, the people who are amnesty happy need to understand that illegal is illegal. For years, Arizona had the highest number of illegal aliens crossing the border & living in the state, and nobody in the government said or did much about it. The citizens spoke up and demanded action, so that was one of the reasons for SB 1070 in the first place.

Most everybody has no problem with legal immigration. The ones who live here ILLEGALLY and sponge off our gov't services & pop out babies they can't afford are the problems. Of course, one big part of the problem is the employers who hire illegals for minimal wage work. I'm really more in favor of going after these employers who break the law ... because the way I see it, if businesses hired only legal citizens, illegals wouldn't be over here looking for odd jobs. Also, if the Fourteenth Amendment were repealed (or at least reworded), illegals wouldn't be over here spewing out their anchor babies so they would be instant U.S. citizens. We need to do our part over here by cutting off the access (welfare, jobs, etc.) to non citizens, and I think that alone would reduce the illegal population.

Obama should be given the bill for all of his lawsuits against states that are trying to uphold the laws of our land that He is sworn to uphold but refuses to do.

The states should now sue Obama to force him to uphold the laws of this land.

It's really funny how each side interprets this decision, but, the heart and soul of 1070(and what the left was protesting), was the provision about asking for papers when stopped. THIS WAS UPHELD.......and, it was unanimous(9-0)......Most people were not even aware of the rest of the bill....
