That's different than sales taxes, none are due if the car is bought from a private owner, or brought in from out of state.

I'll throw some good on ya Zippyman but I gotta disagree with you here.
I brought my old trusty 1990 Ford Ranger down from Oregon. I just got it smogged last week, drove straight to the MVD and I got the title transfered, registration, plates and tags for $32.00. Took me less than 30 minutes at the MVD.
My ex girlfriend got her 2003 Kia smogged for $27.00 then we went to the MVD, transfered the title, plates, registration and tags for $42.00. (I know, I paid for it.)
My mother brought her 1996 Chrysler Concord from Oregon last year. $42.00 is what it cost her including the ten bucks for her drivers license. Don't quote me on the license. It was either 10 or 15 dollars. In either case, we got out of the MVD pretty cheaply in all cases.
It was a good experience every time.

That' sounds very reasonable. But I'm sure it would cost more if you have a car that is 2009 and up

Btw. How much is your car insurance?

The Az. MVD does hit newer cars pretty hard but I guess that's the price we pay for success.

I pay about $800.00 per year for two older cars but I also added uninsured motorist and I tripled all the coverage amounts. I like to know that I am FULLY covered so there are no surprises. Also, you need to understand that I have liability only. My cars aren't worth enough to get full coverage on them. If one of them got creamed, I'd just buy another older vehicle as a replacement. I'm not a big car guy. It's just transportation for me. If they are comfortable and don't embarass me, and are reasonably reliable, that's all I'm looking for in a ride.
Before I added all the extra coverages, I was paying about $650 per year.
I have a clean record (no tickets, accidents, DUI's, etc.) and I am widowed and I am 52.
I probably could get insured a bit cheaper. I do need to look around some more.

Thanks for the advice..

That's probably a good idea in Az having coverage for u insured motorists.
Im sure if u had fully coverage w out the coverage for uninsured your still covered you just pay the deductible. At least that's how it is here in Ma

I have $500 deduct. So if someone Hit me w no insurance I'm
Covered but pay the $500 in most cases autobody shops here roll the 500- into it so u don't pay anyway.
Especially if u know people.

I will be shopping for insurance in sept. I just bought a 2007 g6. I bet my ins is outrageous. i might put liability on it. i do not think a wreck in the city will be that much damage. then again -- u never know.
just hope my rates are not crazy high. i have nothing on my insurance for about 5yrs.

Keep in mind that if your car is financed, you're usually required to have full coverage instead of just liability.

Also, accidents in Phoenix can be very brutal, thanks to the way people drive here. Don't assume any accident you have is likely to be minor. There's always a chance it won't be.

It really isn't the car you need coverage for, it's medical expenses. There are many uninsured drivers here, and even those with insurance often have terribly low limits. No one wants to think about getting injured in an accident, but it does happen. Bumping up your coverage level is usually only a few bucks, and in my opinion it's completely necessary.

Another thing to keep in mind, is that Az is a "fault" state, and even minor fender-benders routinely end up in court. I was involved in an accident a few years ago where traffic on the 101 came to a stop. I stopped, the car behind me stopped, and an in-attentive driver rammed the driver behind me into my car. Despite a police report that clearly stated what happened, both other drivers insurance companies called me at work, wanting to record statements from me, no doubt to try to weasel out of those claims. No one was injured, this was just the insurance companies trying to wiggle out of minor property-damage claims. Both companies were names that you've seen on tv, so it isn't like these were fly-by-night operators. I can just imagine the stunts they would try to pull if someone was injured or killed.

In fact, my last call for jury-duty was a trial over unreimbursed medical expenses.

The point is, buy *good* insurance, you might need it. And, if you're involved in an accident & get a call from another insurance company, don't talk to them at all - nothing good will come of it.

I've seen huge variances in premium quotes, so definitely shop around for coverage.
