From the article above:
"The aging process may also affect cognitive skills. Short-term memory loss, for instance, can impair driving skills by interfering with a person's ability to process information efficiently when merging with traffic or changing lanes. Such difficulties are magnified when the older driver performs these driving skills under stressful conditions. The higher incidence of cognitive impairment, particularly dementia, among older adults produces an increased risk of accident involvement."
I dunno but I would think it has to depend on the severity of the "impairment". But if your Dr recommends against driving I would take it seriously. Just my opinion.

I simply inquired with my primary doctor that I had noticed some memory loss and he said "lets get it checked out" and refereed me to a neurologist who determined it was stress related. I had no idea my driving privileges were in jeopardy which in turn would make my livelihood in jeopardy.
I would have never mentioned it and went to the neurologist had I known this was a possibility.

Wow this is news to me, I never knew doctors could do that either.

Short Term or Long Term Memory Loss is not the point here . . .
An accident with or without property damage or bodily injury after ignoring the NOT TO DRIVE advice of a medical professional could lead to horrific legal ramifications.
Rest assured, the Ambulance Chasers are waiting to pounce on these cases like sharks.

So SHOULD you drive? NO. But I'd be talking to the doctor again about what action he took/will take, and how long he intends that the restriction last. When is the scheduled expiration date on your license?

No, I did not ask him. My license has 3 years to go.
I went to the MVD today and no action had been taken against my license.
If occurs to me that if I had an accident and this doctor had not reported my condition to MVD that he could also be liable.
It costs me a lot of money to hire people to drive me around.

The neurologist, who took 2 hours to evaluate my memory, said I could drive if I could pass the driver's license test.

Don't assume. Find out what he meant. Ask if he is going to report you to MVD. That MAY be the only way to take the test (s) before you are due to take them, and if you pass, avoids being in driving limbo for the next three years. I can't believe that's what he expects you to do.
