Default Physician considering move

Hi All,
I am a Family Physician considering a move in the next year or two. I have grown up in the Midwest and now work in the state of Kansas. My wife and I are getting really burned out with the Midwest winters and are looking for a change. It is difficult to get away to see a lot of towns in such a big area so this is why I have been posting here. I could use some insight on different places. (We have been discussing California, Arizona, New Mexico)

Please, let me know any thoughts are towns/cities in Arizona. I have a friend in Chandler and he loves it. However, a metro area with lots of docs probably doesn't need another one. So, I am open to a more rural area as well. (I am in rural Kansas at this time.)

Thanks, everyone for your help. Take Care!

Hi Doc: I live in Chandler. We DO need more docs here. Especially if you will take Medicare. Especially if you are family oriented, care about elderly, know some of the issues we face daily, and can manage a huge number of patients with a staff that are not dummbells. I am onto my third doc here and this one, although really really nice, is SO overwhelmed she really needs help. She has a 4th year med student helping her, but that still makes it impossible to get out of their office in less than 2 hours. Chandler is a great place to live, if you can take the summer heat (and humidity this year). Come on down !!!

There is a lot of growth in the Phoenix area, especially around the edges in places like Goodyear and Surprise which are generally underserved by professionals including doctors.

Welcome, I'm a physician (cardiologist). There are plenty of opportunities for primary care physicians in the Valley in all cities. Groups and hospitals are always looking to add more physicians to their practices to share call and expenses. However, if you desire to go solo, that will be nearly impossible as you will struggle to acquire new patients. Rural medicine is always a great opportunity particularly in areas like Flagstaff, Payson, Prescott, Casa Grande and many towns and cities in Southern Arizona.

You would be surprised. There are a ton of doctors in that area. There are a lot of cardiologists in that area let alone family medicine doctors. The Phoenix metropolitan area is saturated. You have to travel to the extreme outskirts to really see a demand.

Default Family Physician Looking......

Hello All,

I am a Family Physician in Kansas. My wife and I are looking to make a change. We both are tired of the brutal Kansas winters and we are considering moving to California, Arizona, or Nevada.

If any of you have some good insight on pleasant city/towns please, let me know. I am open to both rural and metro areas. Speaking with recruiters (which I am currently doing) usually makes it more confusing.

Thank You!!

Chuck,

You ve GOT to give us SOME more information - do you want to work in a large hospital in a metro area? Private practice in a small town? Are you open to ANY winter (i.e. Flagstaff or mountain towns south of)?

AZ has a lot to offer and is absolutely always looking for Physicians due to our diverse population base....but we ve got to get a little help in order to point you to possible locations.

Also, recently there have been a couple of other Physician threads both here in the AZ forum as well as the Phoenix specific sub forum...you may try a search for those...

As an escapee of Ohio winters I can tell you that you will love the valley! Our physician just left his practice and I think they need a replacement...
