Hello fellow Phoenicians,

I have read most everyting there is on the web about this lake and I am still undecided whether it is worth it to drive minimum 3 1/2 hr to see it. We live in Dobson Woods and are kind of new in the area. We are always travelling with Emma, our 4 1/2 yr-old Golden Retriever (75 lb) that we raised since she was 7 weeks old So, I see not many hotels accept pets over 40 lb and I don't see too many trails that we can walk with her. Please advise. Thank you.

It's getting cooler outside and that 3 hour drive ain't bad; just leave early and come back the same day. I've done the Phoenix to Bullhead thing and that was def tougher cause of the extra 50 miles each way.

In a short answer. No ! You have to get off the interstate and Lake Havasu is basically one of the SRP Lakes. I guess looking at London Bridge might be exciting to some I suppose.

My advice. Go to the Dog Beach in Ocean Beach,CA in San Diego. Dogs as big as 120 pounds can roam leashed up in and out of the ocean. It's a 4 1/2 to 5 hour drive to San Diego on Interstate 8 too. Well worth the extra mileage to be at the ocean with Man's Best Friend.

Without a dog: Definitely. If you like natural beauty and getting out on the water, then Havasu is great! You can rent a boat or jet skis and travel around to all the different areas or just relax close to town. It has a party town vibe in the spring or on special weekends, so don't be shocked if you see people hanging out and drinking on the water. You can walk the London Bridge, do some souvenir shopping, or go to the casino if you don't want to rent a watercraft.

With a dog: That's a tough one. If you want to get out on the water, I don't know if anyone will rent you a boat that will accommodate a pet. You can still walk around and see the natural beauty though. Not sure if any of the shops are dog friendly. Lake Havasu and Cattail Cove are both dog friendly, and there is an off leash dog park called Lion dog park.

If you do decide to go and spend the night, here is a place that lists pet friendly hotels: DogFriendly.com's City Guide: Lake Havasu, Arizona. I really do think it's a beautiful place so my personal opinion is go at least once to see if you like it. It's not too far of a trip, and the last hour is a really pretty drive.

Havasu is a pretty lake. But a dog friendly place on the water would be the Colorado River. You won't have shopping or anything, but dogs are welcome here.
