Question Racial tolerance in Prescott area?

Hi everyone,

My wife & I are considering Prescott as a possible retirement move from SoCal (surprise). We are a mixed race couple (white/black). I never even think about it around here, and it's never been an issue in most places we've visited. In Memphis, though, I thought we had grown second heads from the stares we received.

Any input on the attitudes in the Prescott area?

Also, we like pine trees and room (e.g., 1/2 to 1 1/2 acres), but a decent sized house, say 2500-3000sqft, but only $400-550K. Is this possible? Any ideas on the best neighborhoods/areas?

Thanks in advance to any who respond!

Default Lots of Choices

Hi Qwik,

Lots of homes fit your criteria and price range. If you send me a direct message, I can send you a list. There are several developments that are set in the pines. Some of these include: Timberridge, Hidden Valley Ranch, Los Pinos Estates, and Rancho Vista Hills.

Cheers,
Brian

You're going to find ignorant folks any where you go. Prescott is filled with conservative christian cowboy wannabees so you'll want to consider what's really important to you. The weather here in the quad cities area is great. It's not the best place for jobs, but it's a great palce to retire. You'll probably be able to find what you're looking for with the price range you have. But consider that living in the pines you'll also have a serious fire danger. Also keep in mind that Prescott has a huge number of halfway houses and drug rehab centers. Your money will go much farther if you consider Prescott Valley and Dewey in you home search. Prescott Valley is going to out grow and overshadow Prescott eventually. And please ignore the Biggs realtors. Thier constant trolling for business on the City Data forums is pathetic. The fact that they need to troll for business here should tell you everything you need to know about them. I've met them and I can tell you that you can easily find much better realtors in the prescott area who will be honest with you.

I don't know of anyone here that wouldn't be accepting, but then I probably don't hang around with people that wouldn't be. I think its sad that it even has to be a consideration these days. Probably the best way to find out for sure is to come for a visit and spend time haning out downtown and see what you think.

In general I think you'd really like the area. For your price range, check out Pinion Oaks, Prescott Lakes, and Yavapai Hills. If you want to be in the pines/boulders area of Prescott, then you may need to look at a little older home or a little smaller home to be able to stay under $500k. Stoneridge in Prescott Valley is also a nice area (golf subidivision) where you get a nice sized home in your price range.

quikbarton...there are idiots and bigots everywhere, but most of the folks I know in Prescott in particular, and AZ in general would not think a thing about your race. I wouldnt sweat it if I were you.
(Of course I am a white male and probably havent dealt with some of the things that you have)

Still I pastor a church of cowboys and country folk, and they in spite of the reputation of such people, they hate bigotry.
