Hi!

We have a Safeway, Food City and a Fry's. I personally find it a bit expensive, maybe that's 'cause I'm a tightwat. Of course, everything is relevant. Here is a link to the weekly ad for Fry's Fry's Food (http://frysfood.inserts2online.com/customer_Frame.jsp?drpStoreID=59 - broken link)

I hope I was helpful. Are you looking to relocate?

All due respect, it is definitely relative! Most recently, I've lived in three high cost of living places, and coming to SV is going to be like winning the lottery, moneywise. Where I live now, a bag of salad is $4 and just a head of lettuce itself is the same! We shop at the commissary and still spend about $500 a month for two people and pets.

The reports all say that SV is about 30% below average for cost of living, so hopefully that holds out for groceries too. Now, gasoline costs are still going to give me sticker shock! I heard about $2.79 per gallon there? Ouch!

We are relocating to the Phoenix area from VA, and when I visited in September, one of the first things I did was go into a grocery store to check prices. I found most things comparable to where I shop now. However, I use coupons, and the store I go to doubles them. I did not see that in any grocery store I went into (double coupons). I use these along with sales, and can do well doing that. Are there any stores that double the manufacturer coupons? With gas shooting up to over 3.00/gal, I need all the help I can get!

In the past, doubling and tripling coupons was a BIG thing out here, but not anymore. I don't notice much going on in this dept. I think I occasionally see a store offer double, but it's on a special day or something. I think the big thing are the shopper cards (for example, VIP cards at Fry's). All the stores have them.

Yes, here stores have the member cards too, but adding the sale prices along with the coupon doubling really helps. Those member cards are just another way to track what we as consumers buy, and stores just mark up the prices and act like they are giving you a deal if you are a "member"!! Kind of sucks you into playing their game. Groceries are only going to get higher in price because transportation costs to get the goods to the stores are skyrocketing with gas and oil.

This is only partly true. It's a total rip-off across the board. I'm really sick and tired of looking at the smaller and "new" versions of everything.
