Highway 70 in Eastern AZ.
Drive a semi for a living and like to take backroads somitimes.
I had been as far as Safford, but always liked to check out Duncan AZ.
So, traveling west bound, left the I 10 in Lordsburg NM, going to Duncan.
In NM it is a straight shot, no homes, farms, nothing. Just purfect...

Took this pic in the evening, it is NM, but the mountains are AZ.

Duncan is in a valley where they farm, and it was very green.

I had been reading about Duncan, it is very secluded, but not excactly very wel maintained. A hotel advertise that they are booked a year ahead, but was not impressed. Surely needed some paint.

2 pics of downtown.

Nature is faboulous though, and hardly any people.

After a few miles you get out the valley.

It is Arizona as it looks in the movies and on old pictures.

The road is somewhat curved, but easy to drive, and you can pull off everywhere.

The last 10 or so miles towards Stafford is straight and slightly downhill. You see Mount Graham from far away.

Safford is in a valley too, and farming is a way off live, plus the mining offcourse.

Guess this train serve the mines.

The restaurants in Duncan didn't open till 8 am, and I always love to drive early in the morning, the light is just great, and the air seems cleaner.
So, breakfast in Safford. Parked the truck right downtown, wich is one block south of the main highway.
Downtown is very nice and unspoiled (yet) by expensive galleries...

IMHO there was one drawback, the town hanged speakers on every lightpole, and there was some local radio station on. When folks want to listen to the radio, they got one in their vehicle...

But that was really the only, small, complaint.
Had breakfast in I think, Coronado restaurant. Mex american food.
It was very clean, affordable and great food.

Homefries done the way they should be done, first boil the potatoes, than fry them.
This meal was $10.36, includes the coffee.
I strongly believe in buying american and supporting locally owned bussines. One day, when they are gone, everybody wil be crying....

Hopefully Safford Pastor won't kill me for giving the secret beaty away....
When you go west towards Phoenix, the green valley goes on for, I guess, about 25 miles. The views from the road are spectaculair.

I think this is Pima, a very small place.

The road becomes 2 lane again, and very quiet. It goes a little up and down, but nothing that slows you down. And there are some outstanding views...

After a while you drive through the Apache reservation.

Forgot how beautiful that area is. Used to race bicycles in college and they had a road race that started outside of Duncan and followed Hwy 70 and then turned onto Hwy 191. From there hooked up to Rte 75 and finished back up in Duncan. It's a lot prettier at 25 mph on the saddle of a bike.

I love our part of Arizona...a couple of things....the Salsa at El Coronado is the best restaurant salsa in our valley...(restaurant that is...my lovely wife's is better...of course) and on Mondays they have .99 tacos and enchiladas...you can seriously load up then.

In one of the pics you see Indigo Mt toys...just across the street is a little beautiful coffee shop called A Step back in Time....best smoothies....the orange one is out of this world...cant remember the name of it.

Seen a coffe shop, on the corner? But it was closed. Was in town at about 7.30/8.00 am.

Love Safford, but it is to far from the interstate.
Now, who's idea was it with them speakers? That was a little annoying imho. I would love the silence.
Maybe next time I should let you know when passing through town.
You are a pastor?

One Question, did you guys get a lot of rain, that night Lordsburg got a lot, and in Duncan the streets had big puddles.
This was 2 weekends ago.Saterday juli 14th

We have had pushing 3 inches so far this month (July)...and do let me know maybe we can do lunch.

As far as the speakers...I noticed the other day that they were running a Sirius station through them...and sometime it can get a tad too much.
