Anything in this area that is with Mohave Electric Cooperative is going to have HIGH electric bills. I have been here almost 20 years.
In the winter time, your electricity won't be bad, however, if you have central air be prepared for very HIGH bills! We have a 2,000 sq ft house, it's older, but well sealed. In the summer our bills reach over $400 for at least two, maybe three months. However, there is 6 people in my household. There are always computers running, tv's etc.
If you have evaporative/swamp cooling, your bills will be CONSIDERABLY less!
Also, MEC offers a deal where they will average the previous years bills and divide that amount by 12 and that's the "set" amount you will pay. However, at the end of the 12 months, you could either be entitled to a credit (because your bills were actually lower) OR you may have to pay extra (because your usage was actually HIGHER). Either way, it's still A LOT easier to budget!

Heat Pumps?
Hi.. Thanks for your info!
Do you know anything about using a heat pump? I have heard if your air unit is a heat pump rather than a normal ac unit, you use alot less electric and a heat pump will cool just as well as a regular ac unit.. any thoughts on this? Thanks!

Hi, I'm glad you asked about electrical costs in the Mohave area. I am considering purchasing a home in the Los Lagos area of Fort Mohave. I can't get a straight answer from residents there. One neighbor said his bill runs about $115 in the summer (1800 sq.ft.) and another neighbor quoted over $400 for approx. same size home. Of course, some folks like it a lot cooler than others. My guess would be somewhere in the middle.

112-120 dgrees 3mos of the year
I go down to Bullhead a number of times during the summer. It is so hot that it is sometimes difficult to breath. I have heard it costs from $200 to $600.00 a month . Meaning that some people pay $200 a month in small places like 800 sq. ft., up to $600 a month for larger houses.
It is so hot for 3-4 mos a year some people just move out. I know people that work in the casino's, who have moved over the hill 17 mins away, to Golden Valley, just to get the heck out of BHC. When the humdity goes up it's really bad, doesn't happen much. Keep in mind the heat is 24 hrs a day you can't get away from it. In Golden Valley it ranges 96-104 and dry, off and on it goes up 110; which makes a huge differance, dry heat feels about 10 degrees less.
July my a/c was broken, it just starts getting hotter in July I would guess that it would have been $110-20. In August my electric bill was $134.00, Sept. $97, Oct.$43. My place here in Golden Valley is ALL ELECTRIC.
At night it drops to 75-80 degrees. Hope this helps you or ANYONE else thinking about moveing to Bullhead City .

I myself would rather go swim in the pool to cool off then freeze in the Midwest during the winters. A 1500 sq ft house in Lake Havasu costs me $140 a month during the summer.Winters drop down to $50 a month everything is run from electric no gas. And yep is it hot here in the summer

Hi AZ Bound,
July a/c was not workng properly. Aug. was about was less than $140, I have 1344 sq ft. My nieghbor has a new, about a 2000 sq ft. manu home and his bill was abot $140 also; he has propane to cook on. Golden Valley is west of Kingman 10miles and east of Laughlin, NV 17 miles, 17 miles to the Colorado River, & Lake Mohave, it takes 12-17mins to get to Laughlin. Hwy 68 runs right throught the middle of GV run east to west, from Kingman to Laughlin or Bullhead.
There is an old small convienence store in th west side of the valley. A new 20-40 acre RV park and store going in, as we speak. A resturant called K&C. There is Golden Valley Conv. store, and gastation. Maverick's building a whole new store and gas station and bakery. There's a Sonic Burger, El Rancho. On the eastside theres a Conaco cov. & gas station.
I'm on county water. There are private water companies, there is water haul, you can pay someone to haul, about $60.00 a mo. You can drill a well about $10k.
A big developer from Vegas, Rhodes, has started a 5,000 acre planned community in south Golden Valley, with stores and golf course. It has come to a holt, for a few reasons, the ecoonmy probably, but ACC has to apporve his utility company. We'll hear more in 30 das. Another big developer from Vegas, Meridian has bought land in the area of Griffith
Griffith Industrial Corridor, south Golden Valley, again, has 2 new gasfired $200 million energy plants going in, to be running by summer 2008. according to the news these plants are need before the industry and thousands of homes can come in.
Wal-Mart was going to put a distribution center in in the same area at the Griffith offramp. They put there plans on hold in Oct. 2006, do to high construction costs. Last week they paid $280,000.00 for thier water connection.
So there are huge plans in the works. The thought is things will boom once the hooverdambypass.com is complete in 2010. Moderator cut: Advertising
Hope this helped. anymore questions, I'll try to help ans. them. Bye for now.

I have an 1800 sq ft manufactured home. I have a heat pump and my highest bill was $250.00 in the summers. I keep it about 70 degree's year round. It makes a big difference on which way a home is facing. I have no windows facing the west no afternoon sun. I also have low e windows which makes a huge difference and sun shades on the back side of home.
I had a 1400 sq ft home stick built home and my bill was $250-$400 a month.
I am much happier in my manufactured home , more sq ft and more for the money.
I work with builders everyday.
