I moved here from CA,to fort Mohave for a year. Desert Lakes is a nice neighborhood of homes on the golf course. Then after a year I moved to the other end of Bullhead city. Fort Mohave has a higher class of people living there and it is close to the Avi, a casino with all the amenities. Movies, Bingo, gambling, events, live music and some dancing. They have a beautiful pool and beach on the river. I loved Fort Mohave, I wish I never moved. Bullhead has a much lower class of people. But the bottomline AZ is what you make it.

Bullhead city AZ is what you make of it! You go on girl. Hold your head up high and make eye contact with people you will find alot of really nice people here. The losers avoid eye contact. It is a melting pot of the lowest class poor white trash, obese, smokers I have ever seen in one area. Stick to fort mohave or the nicer areas of Bullhead. i love it here. No problem with drugs or crime I pick people with some class.

Ok, I have read all of the posts on here and I agree with some and completely disagree with others. I have lived here 19 years. I have 4 kids ages 5yrs-16yrs.
They are always adding new things to do around here for everyone. We now have a skate/bicycle park, there's a new recreation center with indoor pool coming etc. This place is really booming. Schools: there are certain schools that are a little better than the others. I prefer Diamondback and Sunrise Elementary schools, primarily because of the demographics of BHC and where most of the drug problems lie etc. however, all of the elementary schools are pretty good. As for Junior High Schools, I think Fox Creek is a tad bit better than Bullhead Jr High, despite the fact that the new principal (of Fox Creek) of 2 years is a lesbian. Although I do not agree with her lifestyle, the issue is that there is NO REASON why my kids should know her sexual preference. BHC Jr High, isn't too bad, except again, the demographics in where the bigger drug issue resides. There is a drug problem at both Jr. Highs, just one jr high is more the "prep" school and the other is more the lower income. Here's the bad part. It doesn't matter which elementary or Jr High the kids go to it all feeds into the SAME HIGH SCHOOL (Mohave High)! There are some teachers that are really awesome, the kids love them, learn from them and have utmost respect for them. There is a drug problem at the high school, but they are trying to combat the problem. It's a closed campus, completely fenced and a security guard, (no weapons or anything), just someone that guards the grounds and the gate; who goes in and out during school hours. There is above avg. dropout rate, & HIGH rate of teen pregnancy. Something like 20-25% of the girls are pregnant and about 75% of those are Mexican (that is a fact that a school official let out). River Valley High in Mohave Valley, about 15 miles south of BHC, is somewhat better than Mohave High School in Bullhead. However, that is where the indian reservation is, thus a larger population of indians which I was told tend to often bully the white kids. So as for the schools, we have the same problems as any other school system, however, our schools do lack funding (compare the numbers go to www.greatschools.net). If you have school children, maybe try looking into moving to Laughlin, NV rather than Bullhead. The schools are a lot better...but housing is expensive If you have no kids and are not worried about schools...keep in mind, this area was ONCE the meth capital of the USA. As our local law enforcement has attempted to crack down more, as well as meth growing in other areas in recent years, we are no longer the capital, however, it is still a major problem, and always will be anywhere there is a 24 hour night life. If you are older, this should not affect you unless you're unfortunate enough to get into the wrong housing. Try to talk to the neighbors before buying or renting. They will always be honest about what goes on. The weather...if you can handle 125+ in the summer, hate rain, and like your weather dry, this is the place for you. With the exception of this year, it rarely ever freezes in the winter, but it sure has been cold for us lately...no icey roads or anything. We have went from 127 this summer to 27 the last few mornings BRRRRR...we are NOT used to that. When it drops below 70 we grab for jackets lol. Now for the part I really disagreed with...BUGS. Ok, if by rare chance, we happen to have a lot of rain (like a rainy day once a week for a month maybe if that), then we have a short period of time when we manage to get a small invasion of some kind of bug. Once it was black beetles, not the norm. Usually crickets or grasshoppers. As for cockroaches, they are not a problem unless you have a dirty house. In 19 years, I had 1 roach problem and it was from someone bringing some stuff into my house that came from a roach infested house. I treated the problem, got rid of them and never saw them again. We do have something called water/sewer bugs. They are only out certain times of the year and not everyone is bothered by them. Some get them some don't. Yes, they look like a HUGE (sometimes 2-3 inches long) mutant cockroach with wings (and very fast), but are completely harmless other than just the creepiness of them. They can be freaky, but not a big problem. If you do have a problem, call pest control. Ok, I have rambled long enough. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask away. There really isn't much I don't know or can't find out about this area... If you are in the market for Real Estate, we have a couple of places for sale as well as a well established carpet cleaning business we are trying to sell, because we are moving to Texas this summer. No I am not a hypocrite, we have just had enough of the desert and want to move closer to my husbands family. If your intrested, let me know! Crystal Last edited by Yac; 10-30-2007 at 03:12 PM.. |

Thanks, I've enjoyed everyone's posts about Bullhead City, Fort Mojave, etc.
We have lived in Bullhead City since 1993 or so, and we aren't happy here anymore. The traffic is horrible! Lines are long all over town! We're being invaded by California immigrants and just feel "squeezed out!" Our peaceful little rural community is gone forever. It's sad. Time to move on soon. Doing research about other cities and states on the Internet. Thanks, Desertlovers.... |

you're so right desertlovers. There is a problem with overcrowding here. We have lived here since 1988 and things have definately changed. Wouldn't bee so bad if the city council and transportation dept would have stayed on top of our projected growth and planned for it more rather than waiting until everyone moves in THEN widen and add more roads etc.

Kawgpz550:
Thanks so much for writing. Now I don't feel so alone! Sometimes, it seems like everyone else is in favor of the new growth, and all of the chain stores coming to the area, etc. The city council has sure tried to re-make the area into some "modern city" of their dreams! And you.re right, there was no planning ahead of time for all of the increased traffic, etc. I don't even like to drive up near the Laughlin bridge anymore, with all of the traffic going in and out of Home Depot, Sam's Club, and the restaurants up there, etc. YUK!! Are you planning to stay here, or have you thought about moving someplace else too? Lately, I've started thinking about moving to rural Kansas. I have a few relatives there. Really don't know the area all that well yet. Thanks a million for writing!! Write anytime!!! DL |

I have lived in this hell hole for 3 and 1/2 years. I have regretted moving here for pretty much all of that time. If I had know 1/4 of the stuff I know about living here before I moved from Orange County ca, I would have looked elsewhere. Where do I start!! The first thing I noticed was the huge and ugly bugs here...there are things called "vinegaroons" and "sunspiders", they look like they are from HELL!! Theres scorpions and snakes...I have had 2 rattlesnakes on my property and those where just the ones I saw, I'm sure there where more. Even though I have my house sprayed every month I still found a scorpion in my daughters bedroom!! The most poisionous snake in the u.s. is found here...The mohave green. I hear about peoples dogs getting killed from that snake all the time. Then I noticed its windy about 360 days a year here....you dust your house and its dusty again in 10 minutes. It got to 130 degrees 2 summers ago...It was only 128 last summer. They say Death Valley is the hottest place in the U.S., Well, its just as hot here. Then I noticed the people!!! Lots of Methheads, Hillbilly Mullet wearing white trash, old, people and *******s. I remember when I first moved here seeing a sticker on the bumper of a truck and it said "For such a small town, there sure are a bunch of *******s", that pretty much sums it up! Trying to find a decent job here has been impossible....Theres no professionalism and people do whatever they want WHENEVER they want. I call it Brown Acres (instead of Green Acres) its the wild west revisted. I have 3 kids ages 22,11 and 3, My 22 year old refuses to live here..he hates it. And there is absolutely NOTHING for young kids to do...Theres a rinky dink minature golf place and a quasi chucky cheese place and a kidsquest at the Avi casino and kidscastle at the Riverside casino, that are basically a babysitter so you can go lose all your money at the casino and your kids are safe. I can see why all the kids here are all on drugs....boredom, and the fact that most of there parents are on drugs too. Its basically a town built around gambling and drinking and its not a healthy place for kids. And I have found a healthy place for other ages too. I'm moving as soon as my house sells.
