I have been reading a lot of the postings giving Bullhead City a bad rap. I am probably a lot older than most of you, but it seems to me that people are about as happy as they expect to be regardless of where they live. My son and his family moved to BHC 5 years ago and they love it. I am moving there as soon as I can sell my house in the Phoenix area. The river is beautiful and Lake Mohave is 10 minutes away. Locals get great deals in the casinos and there is always something going on there. I am excited about moving to this small town that is just getting big enough to attract new businesses and restaurants like Chili's.

Good luck in Bullhead. It's always the hottest city in AZ. Not much to look at either...

The good thing is you'll be mentioned on the Weather Channel as the hottest spot in the country at least a dozen times a year.

Hello Everyone.

I stumbled on this thread from in Google, and I just had to register to reply to this.

I have lived in Bullhead City for almost 3 years now, moving here from Phoenix, and before that I lived in San Diego.

I have personally never been to a place I hated more. Now, if you are older, you might love this town. The older folks seem quite tight-knit with eachother, and their lifestyle allows them to keep to themselves out here. That works out perfectly for them.

For the younger crowd on the other hand, it is a totally different story.

I am 21 years old. I am one of the most outgoing people you could imagine, always up to do something, to meet new people, to socialize, etc.
But now that I live here, I hardly leave the house unless it is to run errands.

I know ONE other person out here that is beetween the ages of 14-24 that does not do drugs. Meth is a HUGE problem out here, and going hand in hand with it is tons of violence, vandalism and theft. I have seen so much violence and drugs in this area it is absolutely insane. Once you get here it isnt that bad, you can find things to do and you meet new people, but that all changes after a few months. You quickly realize the only thing to do in town is go to the casinos (usually packed full of young drunk punks), go to the lake or the river (usually packed with young drunk punks), go to the bowling alley (usually packed with young drunk punks), go to a party (usually packed with young drunk punks), or hang out at wal-mart (It's wal-mart....)

I have never been more bored in my life, and of course I could go do some of the things all of the other kids out here do, but I don't do drugs, so that leaves basically nothing.

I'm not even going to touch on the pot, coke and alcohol abuse that takes place daily with nearly every young kid in this entire county, including while at school. Since I moved here I have started carrying a knife, a police size bottle of pepper spray and 2 loaded guns on me at all times. I have had to call the police at least a dozen times (im a 6'0 190lb. guy with a shaved head covered in tattoos, and yea, i still have plenty of problems, ever tried to take a girl out on a date just to have 2 cars full of 'spun' out topless mexicans try to act stupid?)

I'm just trying to say this to help anyone out that is either young or may have children, this is NOT the place for kids. My 2 young brothers (early and mid teens) have both been placed on probation since moving out here, and both now have horrible drug and alcohol problems, one of them is on his way to rehab now, and he can't even drive yet. I will say it one more time, this is NOT the place to raise children. I was born and raised for 18 years in san diego, not the nicest parts either, but it was much better than out here. I then discovered Phoenix, and I loved it so much I moved out there. Problems with my roomate made me decide to move to where my family had moved, out here, and I hate myself for coming here and allowing my family to move here every single day. Needless to say we are now trying to fix up and sell our home to move out of the area.

I will bookmark this thread and check back on it, and if any of you have ANY questions about the area, please feel free to ask, I will tell you everything I know...

Default I own property in BHC

Although we live in the Phoenix area, we have a permanently affixed weekender mobile home in Holiday Shores, as well as a vacant residential lot in River Bend - both located in Bullhead City. My mom has lived in BHC for 20 years - retired there, so we visit her and our place quite a bit. Here are my thoughts on this area - there are alot of retirees and snowbirds there. Lots of clubs and organizations for seniors. Lots of rundown places, lots of higher-end new construction also. As for employment, it's a small town, so your choices would be in retail, one of the service industries (like dining or insurance), or the casinos across the river. That's about it.

There are quite a few 'street people' wandering around. And meth is a huge problem there. If you like water sports, the river and lake are GREAT! But if you like to gamble, the casinos will and do lure you in. Hwy 95, the main drag going thru BHC, is so congested during holiday weeks and on weekends that most locals just stay home during that time. The residential roads are horrendous, and not well maintained. It can get windy there, but from some areas, the views are fabulous. Kingman is the closest larger town, and Las Vegas is about 2 hours away. My mom has a terrible time with doctors and medical services there. So she now goes to Las Vegas for anything more than a flu shot.

Like any area, it has it's good and bad points, but I do know several people personally who have moved there, and lost just about everything they had due to gambling and/or meth. And their ages range from 20 to 60, so it's a broad problem, not limited by age or socio-economic status. I've had both my properties up for sale for about 5 months, and haven't even gotten bites on them. Just be careful if you elect to move there.

Well, I've been gone for a while but still interested in getting out of Chicago and still maybe into Bullhead City despite the cockroaches and water bugs...gad!
Was looking at something in Fort Mojave, anyone know much about there?
Population, demographics, crime rate, drugs, etc? Good areas or bad areas to stay away from? More bugs there than Bullhead (I assume so since it's on the river)?
Any and all info is greatly appreciated.

I was previously just "no user name" but I was informed that someone was toying with my screen name and I was emailed their IP address every time. In the meantime, I've just started a new handle.

I put this note on your other thread about bullhead, but here it is again....

Fort Mohave is not more on the river than Bullhead or Mohave Valley, the river runs down the west side of all three. One thing to watch in Fort Mohave is that you are actually purchasing the land under your home. Many land leases in that area since it is partially Indian reservation.

I know it would be easier to show you a map, or maybe a graphical drawing, but instead I am choosing to do this the old fashioned way.
Look closely at the line below...

4
|
1===2=========================3================5
|
|
|
|
|
|
6

Now, that line represents Highway 95. That is the main road through town, the only one. The numbers are as follows.
1: Needles, Ca. , Borders Arizona, begins this stretch of Highway 95
2: Turns into Mohave Valley; Ft. Mohave
3: Becomes Bullhead City
4: Laughlin, Nv. (about to scale, Laughlin is about 1/4 Mi. off of the 95)
5: End of 95, changes, goes through empty mountains to Kingman, Az., about 40+ miles away
6: Topock-Golden Shores area

From Needles to Laughlin, it is about 30 miles. Highway 95 is basically as the line represents, it is a straight shot through town. At any point on Highway 95, you will not find developed are more than 1/2 mile off of the road.

This means the town appears like this...

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
======================
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

= is the Highway
- is the developed area, whether it be homes or business. Beyond that, it is empty baron desert for the most part. So although the road is around 30 miles-ish from end to end, the town is still very small.

So, Ft. Mohave and Bullhead City are practically the same thing. Hope this helps...

P.s. The bugs get BAD out here, this entire part of the state. 2 years ago the bugs were so bad you couldnt walk outside at night without stepping on a bug with each footstep, and the big black beetles would get in your pants and your car (i almost crashed going through the mountains when one crawled up my face in the middle of the night, eek)

If you dont like bugs, this isn't the place for you, lol

Also as far as the wind goes, it can get VERY windy out here. We had a microburst about 3 weeks ago, 2 days with no power. it lasted 10 minutes, knocked down 26 power lines, threw steel buildings nearly a mile away, and flooded nearly every road in town, and covered the highway in huge trees and debris. Craziest thing i've ever seen.

Thunder and lightning in the good storms out here are to die for though.
:-D
