Let me weigh in here:

First; it is not just 'Californians' who are (were) driving up prices.

Second; not all of them are money grubbin' crooks either.

Third; many of the above are also 'good ol' boys/gals'------not all of us 'plastic phonies', yes, I lived in California from 1978-89 than wound up here in Arizona.

400 million will to a lot to bring the Seligman and Ash Fork area up to speed not to mention the supporting industries that will be generated by this enormous investment.

CEMEX will invest approximately $400 million over five years in the Seligman Crossing Plant, which is expected to begin operations by 2012. The state-of-the-art facility will manufacture cement to serve the growing needs of Arizona, including the Phoenix metropolitan area.

“CEMEX is committed to balancing the demand for development in the region with environmental

I am a REALTOR(R) who lives in Prescott, Yavapai County, AZ. I have several listings in the Seligman Area. I am also assisting Buyers in locating property there. Seligman is getting a new cement plant in the next few years, so there will be construction jobs at first plus some good paying jobs when the plant opens. I have two listings under $200,000 for homes or cabins on over 36 acres. I am billing these as "getaways," or more accurately "get-far-aways." The 36 acre lots in the area generally sell for $40,000 to $100,000 with the higher priced lots being the ones with TREES and VIEWS or being easily accessible. Many of the lots are on solar power and hauled water with little prospect of that changing. I will be adding area maps and other materials to my website soon.

I have lived in Seligman for 2+ years, and in Bridge Canyon for those 2+ years. I have never felt safer anywhere! This is a small railroad town that was built years ago and then almost died after I 40 took most of the traffic off Route 66. Route 66 offers this town most of it's revenue. Smart investors have seen this and have been purchasing the older homes, and businesses and are profitable. The Cemex plant moving here will change this area tremendously. I too sell real estate in the area, and have recently seen a slowing of sales, but anticipate they will increase.

Yes, there are coyotes, and snakes, but there are also antelope, prarie dogs, deer and elk. I had two deer drinking water in my front yard yesterday. We also have humming birds, and array of other birds and the most beautiful stars I have ever seen. You choose your own paradise. If you choose to look for gossipers, druggies, and bad things, you'll certainly find them anywhere you live. If you want to be left alone and mind your own business, you'll do fine here. If you are one that looks for negativity you can find that here too. Yes, you do have to deal with dust, mice and rats in the woods....go figure, you're in the woods and nature....I have to tell my self, you trade out for such things. There are issues regarding water hauling, and delivery...but you choose. It's not so bad. The fire department issue is here, but one just does the best one can and understand the + and - of everywhere...hurricanes in the south, earthquakes in CA....
floods in other parts of the nation....so many choices!
This is not a destination for everyone, but for some it is and will be their own paradise or at least escape from the smog, noise, and the hustle and bustle of city life.

Default Just found this forum

I just found this forum and have found it to be some very interesting reading, thank you to all of you for sharing your knowledge and feelings concerning this community. Through my readings on this forum I felt that I should address a few things.

Concerning "US" California's coming to this area... Please let me address this concern. As a native Californian, please blame my parents, since I had no option on what state they brought me into this world in, I am of the opinion of the distaste for Californian's is very narrow minded. The entire United States is a product of people trying to improve their present way of living. If some elect to come into your community then there must be something that they see and something that the "Native Arizonans" should be proud of. I just wonder if those that are complaining about us "immigrates" are NATIVE Arizonans? We love the sort of life that you are blessed to have. Have those that have a strong distaste for the immigrates thought about the tax money that us foreigners have brought to your county and state. I for one, am the proud owner of 43 acres in Sierra Verde Ranch for seven years now, which presently is unimproved but yet over that time frame my taxes for this piece of paradise have constantly increased. So I am paying taxes to the community, for which I presently go visit maybe for 30 days out of the year, so that roads, schools, libraries and the like so the full time residents can enjoy and use. Time to think of the big picture.

Don't hate us that are coming to better our life, maybe a thought would be to embrace us, we really are good people and even maybe you could learn something from us as we can from you.

Hello LIVINGINAZ,

I dont know who you are and thats ok but unfortunately yes the fire department issue between us and Seligman FD is DEFINATELY here.
We just think Seligman FD and thier Chief (MAINLY thier Chief) needs to get thier heads out of thier *****es and start wanting to work out the issues WITH us instead of constantly trying to work around or against us.

We have our lawyers handling Seligman FD now since it has been determined that they are interfering with our business by taking calls privately and responding out there without our knowledge. That is totally against the law and we are believing that they may be starting to get the picture on this, or at least hopefully.
WE have worked VERY hard on becoming a LEGAL FD for the subdevelopment of Bridge Canyon and all we are looking for is for the people to work with us... and those that dont, then let them pay the high response bills that Seligman FD will charge for responding out there. Lets also not forget that the residents HAVE TO pay this even though thier homes are burnt to the ground even before Seligman FD got thier *****es in gear and out the doors. Also lets not forget that should the homeowner not able to pay that response bill that Seligman FD sends ya after they respond, they will not respond again to your emergency until that bill is paid in full. These are exact words as was told to me a cpl years ago by Mr.John Kennedy himself, Seligmans ever-so-loved bs fire chief.

Alot of people around Bridge Canyon have approached me around town and asked about possible annexing(districting) Bridge Canyon, man people have tried this many times but sorry to say, Bridge Canyon just does not fall within County standards for districting.
First, an area for districting must contain AT LEAST 85% of population out of 100 and with over half of those being REGISTERED VOTERS. Bridge Canyon just doesnt have this which means it doesnt meet the requirement.
Second, Bridge Canyon is checkerboarded with State and BLM lands thoughout. According to Yavapai County standards on districting, all properties must be private(not state or bLM lands) and must be adjacent to each other on at least 3 sides. Being that each unit is checkerboarded between state or BLM lands, again Bridge Canyon does not meet the criteria. This means that in order to "district", each unit would have to be districted individually(ie, district 1, district 2, etc). Doing this method of districting could take YEARS and around 3G PER unit to do. Reason i say 3G per unit is because thats the funding the county requires to be put up in order to district just ONE unit by itself. Imagine the cost it would be for all 24 units at 3G per whack!
and Third, just supposing IF Bridge Canyon could be districted, guess who could and would be taking over that district?? you guessed it, Seligman FD and thier ever-so-loved JK.
We at Bridge Canyon VFD flatly REFUSE to allow that to happen which is why,in a way, we are happy that Bridge Canyon cannot be districted that easily.

This, all in all, is why we took the expense to become THE Fire Dept for Bridge Canyon. There are many other reasons too but those i have mentioned are the main ones.

Alot of people would just need to live here to be able to understand the needless issues that are between us and Seligman FD but for insurance reasons, they MUST stay out of our area or we will need to enforce it, until they agree to work things out with us and work out some sort of an IGA with us. We do not charge the BC residents for our services and we will be dammed if we are just going to allow SFD to do so. WE cannot respond in thier district and all that we ask is the same respect from them.

Wonder what his reaction to Seligman was or is. To check out property in Yavapai County one may go to the gis site on the county website and look up all sorts of things.

Seligman has the greatest restaurants in the county.

Yes, coyotes eat dogs, cats, rabbits, prairie dogs, anything they can catch. They are wild, they are predators. They gotta eat too. So if you are worried keep an eye on your pets. Also there are open range areas all over. This means cattle grazing. If Fifi decides to harass a cow or calf, the ranchers have the right to go after Fifi. So agailn, keep an eye on your pets. Even the best ones will try to pull down a calf.
