Headed to Seligman from CT
Hi, all.
Well, I'm nearing retirement age and own a lot in Bridge Canyon Country Estates. What I have been able to find about the area is very little, but I like what I have read. Most web articles are Rte.66 oriented, and while I know alot about the Snowcap now, I haven't seen much about living in the area.
I plan to crank up the old motorhome about June or July, and go see, but would be happy to hear from folks that know about real life in north central AZ.

Seligman is a very small community about 20 miles west of Ashfork and 75 miles east of Kingman. There is really nothing more between Ashfork and Kingman. The town is on the major rail line and is a typical small railroad town. For a retirement community, I believe it is lovely. And I suspect that as the other areas of AZ increase to the busting point in population, property values in Seligman will only go higher.

Seligmen has non stop wind. We have a friend that has lived there all his life and is very disappointed in the direction the town is going. Land is cheap and it seems a lot of drug dealers have moved there and are busy manufacturing crack. I am not joking about this.

Seligman
Hi Bill M,
We bought our 5 acres in 1985 for 1200 dollars. It has been a great place to get away to from the busy city of San Diego. It is nice to have a bon fire and hear the train at night every hour in the valley below. We have hard of drug dealers from the people in town, our little "shack" had been broken into and items were taken from our property they took a franklin stove tore the wall out to get it and also took all the garden tools and a broke into our trailer and trashed it. We did not have these problems before 2000 but Arizona has a law where you can carry a pistol exposed we bring one with us incase we may encounter problems. I think you can't avoid drugs anywhere you go now a days you just have to be vigalin. We have nothing to steal most people are bring up steel locked containers if they are building a home.
But with the new efereda( this is used to make crack/drugs) law 99% of the problems with drugs/crack is in mexico now.
We have always found it peaceful there and have meet a few good neighbors when we visit our property. I know the last time we were there alot of new homes were being built and the club house is nice also. The electricity was about a mile away on bridge canyon country estates road. Our property is at the end of Conquistidor where it hits the small mountain.
Where do you live now? My wife and I are in San Diego and hope to also retire there. We would be happy to be the neighbor hood watch cordinators LOL.....Keep in touch...I know the golf course is coming also Let us know when you visit you can update us on our property we had to clean it up last time the pac rats took over the cabin and we had to burn everything it took 2 days to clean it out...UGHHHH we burned everything.

Hi, Ken and Kellie!
Thanks so much for your reply. It's nice to hear from someone who knows the area. By the way, I am also a Miller!
I am not surprised to hear that there was some trouble with theft and vandalism, though sorry to hear you were victims. Almost anyplace left unoccupied is guaranteed to get a "visit" eventually. I like your idea of a neighborhood watch. Also glad to hear that the crack down on ephedra may have encouraged the "baddies" to relocate.
I currently live in Connecticut, but have set June 15 as the date to head on out. I'll be building a small cottage, and would be happy to drive by your place once in awhile, if I can find it! That's been one of the problems, finding a map of the area. I bought the property on ebay, and while I have a satellite picture, I haven't been able to put it in perspective of a road map.
Anyway, have to run for now; five more days of work, yeehaa!
Talk at ya later.

I have owned a lot there since about 1976. I checked on it in 2000 and could not even ind a street. Only a couple of houses and a few trailers. I just received a low ball offer from a hold ing company. What is going on in the area? Is the golf course being built? I am retired in Texas and would like to sell but not give it away.

Seligman info
As someone who is in Seligman almost daily and lives down the road in Kingman. There is a small grocery store in town a pretty good volunteer fire department. A hardware store where you have to go next door to have them open it up for you.
There is a A&W resteraunt in the Chevron station in town, it is a big tour bus destination and the place gets over run at times.
Arizona Department public safety (DPS) has a huge present in town as they have multiple families living there. The Yavapi sherriffs office is always making rounds and I see them quite a bit.
The biggy is in Seligman you are 75 miles from any where, Prescott, Flagstaff or Kingman.
So if you have to make a run to get ice cream or hardware items pack a lunch.
There is reported to be great cheese burgers down the road at the Grand Canyon caverns.
One of my things is all of the Antelope roaming the area great to watch.
In Ashfork it is a tad run down and the Flagstone is the big ticket item keeping it up and running. The man power to keep these business's running is mainly from other countrys.
ADOT has a hwy yard in town so they keep the highways in great condition snow plowed etc.
Sorry for being so long winded
hope it helps.

Thanks SKaren, and Gary. That is just the kind of information I was hoping for. Not surprising that such a sparsley populated area doesn't generate lots of answers!
Dkarges, I don't know much of what is happening in the developement. It looks like not much!
I bought my lot on Ebay, on the strength of having driven through once, and a satellite photo. The price was low enough, particularly compared to around here, that it was a no brainer, even if it turned out to be not as good as I thought.
I noticed the taxes went down, from$72 to $56 per year. I don't know if that means the values are dropping or what. In the short term I don't care because I want to build a little house to live in, away from big city traffic and crime.
I will be trying to contact my "neighbor", to see if they are willing to sell. I see they also have owned it for awhile without anything happening.
I guess I'll see what's happening soon; my scheduled departure is less than two weeks! If the Winnie behaves, (and I can afford the fuel !
), I should be there about a week later. Yeehaa!
