I've been out here for about 5 months now and I saw my first person carrying a gun in a hip holster. And there were a few others doing the same at this particular retail establishment. Now they appeared to be law abiding types, I mean they didn't sport baggy trousers and "area code" tattoos and all. They were just very rugged looking and manly. But nevertheless it still gave me an uneasy feeling, and I said to the guy, "is that really necessary?" (something to that effect). He said to me that he was exercising his rights.

I love living in Phoenix, the weather is great, it's beautiful, and it's cheap to live here. But is there any way this open carrying practice can be banned here, or at least confined to more rural areas? I understand the governor is very pro gun, is she the one allowing this? Can she be voted out of office? Maybe I'll start voting again. I have no feelings of hate here, hell she's a blonde from Hollywood CA.

No hard feelings anyone, I'm not complaining, I still love it here. I was just curious what steps it would take to ban open carrying in the Phoenix area.

uh, better make up your mind!!....sounds like a complaint to me!

I'm sure seeing Joe Citizen walking around with a real weapon is startling to anybody who hasn't seen it before....I don't own any weapon and have no plans to ever own one in the future....am fairly certain these people with open-carry are not worried about their personal safety, but, as you said, are only making a show of the right to do it.....these people don't really bother or startle me and I think they can do what they want....it's what the majority of state residents want to allow....still a bit of the Old West here, I guess....

get ready for a long thread!!

Are you in the habit of challenging total strangers when out and about? It would never occur to me to comment on what a stranger was wearing or carrying! Same with tatts, haircuts, piercings, etc.

The people of AZ voted for these open carry gun laws. If enough people oppose them and follow proper procedures, laws can be changed. But I think it's highly unlikely to occur any time soon.

One last question. You knew about our laws before you moved, right? And yet you moved here anyway. And now want to change things...

OP it isn't everyone's problem that you were raised to have an unreasonable fear for an inanimate object. Every law abiding citizen even those in baggy pants & 602 tattoos have the right to carry them. It has nothing to do with with our governor its a little thing called the constitution.

If you have such an issue how about moving to some anti-gun utopia like CA or NY. [rude, personal]

Why would you move to AZ and want to ban open carry?

[rude] None of us want it gone.

Typical...move to a place and want it changed to be like the place you just came from. Why the heck did you move here if you don't like the laws here and our governor? Please, don't unpack anymore boxes and head back to where ever it is that you found it "safer" and didn't have to see Americans exercising their rights.

Personally I think open carry is stupid, easy to whack someone from behind on head and take openly visible gun, but I digress.

You moved to one of the most pro gun states in the nation. Take the pros with the cons. Don't like it Kalifornia is right accross the border. I am born and raised Kalifornication, but they want me to register my legal guns and not bring my pocket pistol in the state.

And you already want to change it to like it was where you came from?

You better not come over to my house, you'd have a stroke
