Exclamation Not so fast on legalizing...

Just watched a news piece on prop 205. The mayor of Colorado Springs and a Police official were on talking about how bad of an idea it's turned out to be.
1. Colorado is #1 in the nation for children 10-17 using MJ, 17% have used MJ in the last 30 days.
2. Deaths due to MJ use have gone up 62% since it was legalized.
3. Cartels have not only flourished but they have relocated to CO.

Issues that have to be addressed imo...

That's a very conservative area of the state, I'm not surprised by this.

Here's an interesting report on it.

https://www.bostonglobe.com/metro/20...IYJ/story.html

Quote:
And Dr. Larry Wolk, the top medical official in Colorado’s public health department, said that since legalization no large troubling public health trends have cropped up yet. But he noted sporadic reports of impaired driving and people getting violently ill from ingesting too much marijuana in edibles, such as candy bars.

He said this month new data indicate that the biggest increases in marijuana hospitalizations have been seen among out-of-staters, who might be naive about the drug’s effects
These don't really deter me, but this article seems pretty comprehensive and level.

If that's what the mayor of Colorado Springs and a police official said, then the mayor of Colorado Springs and this particular police official are both full of ****.

1. BS Colorado teen marijuana use rate sees no increase after legalization
2. Extreme BS Here's How Many People Fatally Overdosed On Marijuana Last Year | Huffington Post
3. Not buying it at all, but not saying it's impossible. Would like to see the source of that information...A politician in one of the more conservative cities in the country doesn't cut it for me.

**Edit** - I realize that the Huffington Post is a very left-leaning publication and as a result, their articles should be taken with a grain of salt as well, just like information from Fox News or even the mayor of Colorado Springs. But that said, this particular article I linked to cites CDC statistics, and therefore I have a high degree of trust in the information.

Where did you get this from?

I would really like to know what they are including. That's also not a fair statistic unless you compare it to how much new and overall use increased since it was legalized.

Do Coloradans regret legalizing marijuana? New poll says voters see pot as boon to state

Politicians and anti-pot groups are saying Coloradans have buyer's remorse when it comes to legal marijuana, but a new poll finds the opposite is true

$996 million in legal marijuana sales in 2015
70% of the demand for marijuana is now being met by the legal market
More than $135 million in state tax revenue
28,847 new jobs
Fastest-growing state economy
Use among CO youth unchanged
High school graduation rates significantly increased
Dropout rates significantly decreased

Poll: Coloradans (still) don't have buyer's remorse over legalizing cannabis

What does that have to do with anything? First of all, people of any age are still obtaining access to marijuana and other drugs whether they're legal or not. Second, and most importantly, legalizing it would only pertain to those who are age 21 or older. The same age restrictions currently apply in the Colorado law. Therefore, anybody under the age of 21 who is using marijuana is doing so illegally, even in CO and WA.

That has got to be a joke. Deaths from ingesting anything can happen if consumed excessively or carelessly, including but certainly not limited to alcohol and tobacco ... it's not limited to marijuana. You can also die from swallowing food the wrong way, but what sense would it make to make eating illegal? The last thing we need is a nanny state that tries to save everybody from themselves.

Cartels are flourishing all over, especially in border states like AZ, and they will likely continue to be around regardless if marijuana is legal or not. There's a black market for practically anything out there, be it alcohol, narcotics, guns, gold, computer software, etc., etc., etc. Basically, if certain goods & services are made illegal, people will still find ways to get them, only through illegal means. You're not going to stop underground markets, but people are less likely to purchase items through the black market if they were legalized. I'd rather have goods & services be made safe & legal. Voting NO on the marijuana initiative is doing nothing more than giving the approval to continue to buy & use marijuana recreationally through illegal means.

Yep, he says he saw that crap in a "news" piece but I think he somehow got a preview of the remake of the movie Reefer Madness.

What else could/should we legalize to support our overspending politicians? What else can/should we pimp out for $$$$$$$?

If being a tax boon is the only requirement nowadays then let's just legalize EVERYTHING that's currently illegal and just charge a fee for it.
Want to kill someone? Must by a $25,000 tag for it. We can use the money for the schoooooools.
