I've never been close enough to otherwise clean-looking person with dreadlocks, but there's GOTTA be some smell to them... I'd never understand what makes them attractive... but then again, I'm not into piercing, tattoos, etc., either.

She's a clean person... just has the dreads. The used soap (not shampoo) to wash them. Not totally sure why the distinction. I think the main problem w/dreads on white people is that the hair ends up looking more matted than anything. I know there are some that have smaller, neater looking dreads, but the majority are kinda scary looking.

I work at a tattoo parlor and I don't have any piercing besides my ears, and only one tiny tattoo at the back of my calf which no one will see anyway. I get lots of questions asked by people that why as a piercer, I don't have anywhere else pierced. I either joke that I cannot show them what I pierced, or the fact that I don't have one doesn't mean I'm not a good piercer. People always come back though I don't represent the style of the shop. So again, what I meant was don't judge people on the outside. Just my 2cents!!!

I live in Prescott and agree that we seem to have more than our share of tattoos and dreads. Part of this might come from the fact that Prescott College is located here and most of the students at that school would be considered "Tree Huggers"...certainly their lifestyles are on the edge of society, but not necessarilly bad. Just...hippie-ish. Dreadlocks, unshaven female legs and arm pits, Salvation Army clothing, etc.
While I am not a fan of undue piercings or tattoos, I really don't care as long as they fit the setting. Someone in an office or retail or food industry job should be held to a somewhat different physical standard than someone who works in a factory or away from the public. Old fashioned, maybe, but it's a rather unfortunate fact that we ARE judged by our appearance.
And...as for Dreadlocks being clean...I beg to differ. I work in the county jail and I have never seen a clean head of dreads...in fact, we usually have to end up de-lousing them before they are allowed into general population.
