Nothing will compare well with San Diego, but I liked Kingman and if you can afford it Prescott.

Kingman Regional Medical Center has had its ups and downs. Currently it's on an up. They got a new CEO recently who's made a lot of changes for the better. They've always made it a priority to recruit top doctors from around the country, so it's not like they're some country hicks either. Kingman attracts a lot of retirees, so your husband's issues are common. I think you'll be OK there.

Default Hospital in Kingman

I am so happy to hear that. Medical is so important especially to older people. I wished I had moved to Kingman but I didn't. Instead I moved to a northern state and all it snows and snows, the roads are freezing. One suggestion if you come from California, even when you came originally from a cold state, I would not recommend it. I am checking into Kingman, but my husband needs good medical care and the hospital and doctors are #1 on my list.

By the way I loved how nice people were in Kingman, I drove through it and stayed the night at a motel.

Well, now you've done it. The haters are going to chime in now and accuse you of having nefarious motives for liking Kingman, LOL. That's what they do to me anyway.

We've been gone for over 10 years, but I still miss the place and we still keep in touch with friends we've made there. I'm glad to hear it's still friendly there.

BTW; looking around downtown and the old car culture there, that seems to be thriving, I'm looking forward to finally indulging in that, my very same hobby--- banging together old iron for posterity!

Kind regards to All~!
You know about the Kingman street drags? They close RT66 right there in town and put up bleachers and "Christmas Tree" starting lights and have the drags right there downtown. Happens once a year and practically the whole town shows up for it. You better get cracking if you're gonna have your car ready! https://www.kingmanrt66streetdrags.com/

I'm strongly considering Kingman, but I keep seeing people online elsewhere mentioning some area called "birdland", drugs, crime in general, and that the windy weather is bad. Can anyone tell me if I should put much stock into any of that? Thanks.

It is a warm wind... Why don't you go over there for a week. See it for your self. I liked the down town area, and there are really nice part in and around town.

We considered moving there but my wife didn't like it. She preferred Dolan Springs instead (just kidding). Myself I liked Kingman it may not have been our first choice but I could live there. As corydon said: "Why don't you go over there for a week. See it for your self".

The wind was not as bad as people mention here. I was there for the 12 inch snow in 2019 and that was a blip on the radar as the worst of the weather. There are a few areas that are older but they are avoidable.
You can find crime anywhere if you are looking for it.

I would not let a few bad comments deter you.
