If new companies move here they bring a range of jobs from janitors to CEO positions, because the cost of living is much lower in AZ than in many other states a 40-60,000 household income is the equivalent to a 100,000+ income in other states. Let us not forget lower incomes pay much less for Obamacare so that can be a plus.

$40k here is equal to $100k elsewhere? That's completely false.

Right, what kind of jobs are we talking?

I mentioned in another thread I own rental property in the East Valley and was surprised at the number of rental applicants who earn under 40 grand a year.

Honestly this whole up in arms BS is simply BS, I work in the industry and there is ZERO evidence of any backlash. Tourists really don't give a shyte about politics why do you think Canadians like to visit Cuba?
Vancouver and British Columbia are not conservative neither is Edmonton or Calgary. What does it matter if Canadians can vote? It doesn't matter if they are Americans, they still don't want to live near bigotry. Do you think Canadians just drop in for the weekend? Most of them are snowbirds who reside here for months. And when they have the means to spend their vacation anywhere, do you really think they don't observe a communities attitudes?

And conservatives like yourself are either out of touch with reality or you don't want to admit you are wrong. I'm guessing it is the latter because no one can be that clueless in the face of overwhelming evidence confirming the backlash. The NFL was seeking other sites to move the Superbowl if 1062 passed. The CEO of Reality Executives went on record to the Phoenix Business Journal that he was willing to move their headquarters out of state if 1062 passes. The Greater Phoenix Economic Council stated 4 companies informed them they would drop Arizona from consideration if 1062 passed. The Hispanic National Bar Association (Attorney group) pulled their convention from Phoenix as a result of 1062. Did people just make all of this up too?

What is comical is how some of the legislators who passed 1062 argued there would be no economic backlash either.

It's not too far off though when compared with California

A couple with 2 kids and earning $55,000 can own a comfortable home and live in a nicer neighborhood than they'll find in many parts of California.

$55k in household income with two kids sounds pretty painful. Even here in AZ.

It is good news, but I agree with others that we need to lure more high paying jobs to the state. And if we are to attract high paying jobs, you have to attract the educated elite (ie white collar professionals). And these people are not good ole boys who are pro gun, anti immigrant, and anti-gay like some delusional conservatives would like to believe. The majority of these executives were raised in large metropolitan areas that attended the top universities and graduate schools which are by and large liberal. Do you really think these people want to raise their kids with that type of mindset and environment? When competing states are offering the same financial incentives, they are not going to pick the state that screams "gooe ole boy" Sorry, I know conservatives like to think the people who run Microsoft and other technology companies embody Joe Arpaio but it's a far cry from that. I think this idea finally caught on which is why there was so much protest this time with 1062. People saw the backlash that occurred with 1070 and didn't want a repeat of that nor do they want the state to have that backward image.

If you look at the City-Data info for Phoenix, 55k is above the median:

Estimated median household income in 2011: $43,960 (it was $41,207 in 2000):

Phoenix:
$43,960
Arizona:
$46,709
Estimated per capita income in 2011: $22,389

Exactly! We moved from Phoenix to Seattle 2 years ago and I guarantee you that nobody from the University of Washington would ever consider moving to AZ. Anecdotally, people with PHDs in AZ either move away or stay in Education.

lol

You are speaking to the choir buddy...an ex-Calgarian..lived there for 12 years. I know what makes them tick.

Have fun removing your foot from your mouth....

I'm sure plenty of organizations made threats to move. Talk is cheap actions are expensive.
