You make a good point above but your view of the state just doesn't seem all that balanced. I also believe that when you move to a state you should spend some time there to find out first hand if it is livable for you. For instance no one should be surprised by the heat.

I also disagree about the availability of things to do. We live in Yavapai County and there are an endless amount of activities. I just hate to see the whole stated painted by a broad brush influenced by folks that dislike the Phoenix area. There is so much more to this state.

Michigan is just as beautiful as AZ if you ask me. I could find a trillion things to do in MI, even in winter.
Well, I am (and have been). And you're right. Michigan is a beautiful state .... I never said it wasn't. I'm not miserable here, I just want to live where it's hot and not humid. Very tired of the cold, snow and icky gray winters.

I'll take 40s-60s in Dec and Jan over 0s-30s any day!. Everyone has their own idea of paradise. Maybe it's a good think there's so many types of climates in this country! Michigan's a great state if you ski, iceskate, snowmobile, etc. I tend to hibernate in the winter. I'm just not a "winter" person!

Well, like you said earlier, you just have to find the positive aspect in things. For instance, MI's summers can definitely be humid in summer, but its short lived, unlike AZs heat. And when its hot and humid, what better than to head to MI's beautiful shorelines? Spend the day cooling off in one of the world's great wonders (Lake Michigan) and while youre at it, climb one of the numerous monster sand dunes, head to the U.P. where its even cooler, douse yourself under one of the many waterfalls up there. Take a sailboat out on the lake, do some "deep sea" fishing, rent some jet skis or waverunners. MI's summers are glorious, probably some of the best Ive ever experienced. Winter? Head to one of the ski resorts, teach yourself to ski if you dont already know. Learn to ice-skate, spend some time on the lake or ponds skating the afternoon away. Buy some sleds and hit the hills, or take up cross-country skiing. Maybe buy a snowmobile and fly through the awesome trails in the deep woods (just bring extra gas ). Or if youre really adventurous, buy a snowboard and hit up the snowboard parks. There is soooo much to do in MI in all seasons, theres really no reason to sit around the house. In fact, I wish northern IL had as much to do in winter as MI. Id be one happy guy.

Different strokes! There are millions of people who like doing "winter" stuff. I'm not just one of them.

I don't think anyone makes the argument that AZ isn't a beautiful state- it is. The problem that I and many other people have with it is the cesspool known as Maricopa County. Outside of that hellhole, the rest of AZ is terrific, IMO.

Wow. Why would you want to offend so many people who choose/want to live there (me included)? Santa's gonna put a lump of coal in your stocking!
