We're planning a move and so far Benson meets a lot of our criteria. However, we're wondering about the train running through town. Where are the most quiet locations to look where people aren't bothered by train noise?

You will be amazed...unless you live right next to the track, within 6 months you will "never" hear the train....which is audible several blocks from the tracks....you will just never consciously hear it after a period of time. We were concerned when we stayed at Butterfield RV Park for several months one fall...after a couple of weeks we never paid it any attention.

Yeah, that assessment is essentially correct MOST OF THE TIME. Once and while (even when you are used to it) you will still hear it and it will annoy you - but, for the most part you are correct, you do get used to it and learn to ignore it. As I mentioned in other posts though, you can avoid it pretty much completely by simply choosing a part of the greater Benson area that's not near the tracks.

As mentioned in my other posts - J-Six, up on the escarpment west of town, the new developments just off of highway 90, Pomerine, or St David.
I would also think it would be a problem off of I-10 just west of the highway 90 interchange.

Opps! Meant to say "I would also think it would NOT be a problem off of I-10 just west of the highway 90 interchange".

Yeah, J-Six is REALLY beautiful - with gorgeous grasslands and long, long views. From our lot we can see mountains in all 4 directions, with the east view giving us a peek-a-boo view of the Dragoons, and full-on completely unobstructed views of the Rincons/Little Rincons to the north, the Whetstones to the south, and the Santa Ritas some 40 miles distant to the west/south-west. In fact, it was the views that "sold" us on the lot we eventually bought.

The other big plus about J-Six is the fact that even though it feels fairly rural, you are only 40 minutes from downtown Tucson, about the same distance from Sierra Vista, and just 10 minutes from downtown Benson.

It's quiet, beautiful, reasonably priced, low crime, great schools, and not too far from town. What more could you ask for?

Actually I've never eaten at either of the 2 places there in Mescal. One of these days I'll have to try them.
