Well, the rain evidently affected a few people up here in the Prescott area.

That picture is a few blocks from my house and still flowing pretty good. Crazy Fed Ex driver! He/She should have known better than to try and cross! Our wash has been flowing for the past month or so. It was down to a trickle before the rain/snow and surged but now has receded already.

Most people who have never been to Arizona seem to think of this state as a vast desert wilderness that never gets a drop of rain ... and that is very untrue. While the state is generally drier than many other parts of the country, Arizona is not entirely desert. In fact, there are many dense forested areas that receive a hefty amount of rain & snow.
Flooding occurs mostly at the lower elevations, usually in the outlying areas of the metro areas (Phoenix & Tucson). Floods have occurred during all times of the year, but they are most likely to happen during the winter rainy season (December through March), or the summer monsoon (July, August, and early September). One thing to be aware of also: Arizona has a "Stupid Motorist Law", which forces people who drive through flooded roads to pay for their own rescues if they get stuck. This was a necessary law because of the large population of morons who tried to defy the laws of nature by taking their vehicles through flooded washes ... only to have no way of getting back out. Too much taxpayer money was being wasted on rescuing these pseudo macho types with nothing much upstairs (or downstairs). |
