The biggest thing with cars is making sure you have a big radiator, when we moved here our pickup had 2 cores and overheated at the drop of a hat. If you buy a car here you won't have problems, they are made for the heat. Batteries last about two years and windshield wipers maybe one year. There are beautiful places to live all over the valley and if you decide to move here I think your best bet is to live close to where you work because the commute is brutal. Weekends on our roads are wonderful and you can get anywhere in the valley in about a 1/2 hour from the middle of the city (other than Foutain Hills...that's way out there to the north east). I live in North Phoenix and can be at Mill and 5th Avenue in 40 minutes...so that's how I would choose where to live. There are plenty of jobs available. Oh I forgot to mention, does your car have cloth seats? because if they have any vinyl you will regret that...HOTTER than you can possible imagine on your legs when you wear shorts, which is pretty much the attire in Phoenix for about 8 months of the year. Your concerns about the latino community are pretty null...I've lived here 22 years and I don't speak Spanish and I do fine, most people of hispanic descent speak English...only a few don't and the odds of you dealing with them would be pretty small. There are Russians here, just look on line for clubs. I admire you for wanting to break away from the familiar and try something new. Good luck.
