Default Prescott air transportation

One of the areas we are investigating for retirement is Prescott. It looks like a very nice city. We have family in southern California and dependable air travel to the LA area is important to us. Looking at schedules out of the Prescott airport makes this look difficult. On the Prescott homepage mention is made of upgrading the airport from municipal to regional. Can anyone fill me in on this?

Thank you!

I recently spoke with the Prescott airport manager. They were very close to receiving federal funding for expansion, but then the regional airline was changed. This new airline is not producing the same level of traffic as the old airline, so the current level of traffic is insufficient to bring federal funding. If they can switch back to the previous airline, then traffic will likely increase again, which could bring in federal funding. In any case, do not expect much to change with the airport for several years. Prescott currently has higher priorities than improving its airport service.

That said, you can catch a shuttle to the Phoenix airport, which is very convenient. You can then fly from Phoenix to SoCal.

Another option if you have the time is to simply hop in the car and drive to LA. It's about 7 hours, which by the time you mess around with driving to Phoenix, getting to the airport 2 hours early, plus the flight time, plus the drive from LAX, you are about breaking even.

Prescott is a wonderful area. You will not be disappointed.

My ten cents - Prescott/PV, Flag & Sedona all have very reliable shuttle service to & from Sky Harbor. I've used them many times & I recommend this approach. Flying into Burbank (if you can) beats coping with the LAX experience anytime. Why drive to LA? It adds stress to an already stressful experience. Fly to your destination & p/u your rental car (if your family/friends don't have one to loan you). That's what I do.
