Default Let's talk about Rimrock, AZ...

...because even though I have been in Arizona for a lot of years I never really spent anytime around there until one of my daughters moved up to the Verde Valley.

Any comments on Rimrock as a place to live? Since it is appears to be a little higher elevation then Cottonwood and Camp Verde is it a bit cooler in the summer then those 2 towns. Not much as far as restaurants or shopping that I could see when I drove around there one time. Is shopping tucked away somewhere or do you have to go to Cottonwood or Sedona for groceries, etc.

Appreciate any insights.

Regards

It is land of no services. You either get on the freeway, head go to Camp Verde to shop at Bashas or take Cornville Rd. 16 miles to Cottonwood to shop. Summers are just as hot in Rimrock as the rest of the Verde Valley. Lake Montezuma is pretty as it has some greenery and The Beaver Creek Golf Course which is the oldest golf course in the state.

Aside from Cottonwood; I would have no real problem living in the Verde Valley.

Rimrock area is pretty

I grew up in Lake Montezuma and it is a nice place to live if you are retired and want a slower pace of life.

I think it has a good location to Sedona, Flagstaff, Cottonwood, Camp Verde but be prepared to drive distances for shopping and entertainment. Camp Verde is about 15 minutes away and Cottonwood about 30 minutes or more.

Lake Montezuma/Rimrock has the creek that runs through it with big sycamore trees and a golf course. It has a community center, post office, library, dr's office, park, fire dept. and a restaurant.

Rimrock is just over the bridge and you are allowed to have horses, chickens and I have seen goats and cows. The zoning isn't that great in Rimrock, you can have a trailor next to a house and it may be pretty run down. Lake Montezuma is just across the bridge and has much better zoning with homes only. It has really grown and prices have really gone up but nothing is selling in that area. You can get property that has Red Rock views in that area. My family still lives in the area and have for 50+ years.

For me I had two small children and found it a little boring and the schooling not that great and wanted a different life for my children but I miss the small town atmosphere, being tucked away. When I was young we fed the ducks at the pond, watched fireworks on the golf course, had parades and played in the creeks. There is a lot of hiking and fishing in the near area and to me the weather is great.

Jobs are hard to find in that area, we had to commute to Flagstaff and in the winter that drive can be dangerous and it's over an hour one way. All in all I like it there and if retired I would move back.

One of the oldest golf courses in Az is in Williams and it's called Elephant Rock and it was built in 1920's, Beaver Creek was built in the 60's.

Good Luck to you!

Thanks to all for your comments and to jenkaye... a question is the border line between Rimrock and Lake Montezuma essentially Beaver Creek and the golf course then? As I was driving around, I came across a neighborhood of what I would characterize as duplexes or townhouses. What town are they in

Well the border is Rimrock is on one side of the bridge (the bridge that crosses the creek and has a park next to it) and Lake Montezuma on the other. Lake Montezuma does have some dupexes and townhouses near the Ranch House Restaurant and Golf Course. I heard they are planning on putting up condos along the golf course also....IMO that stinks.
Hope that answered you ?'s.
