I am not sure what $70K to $80K will buy you in the N.West valley, not much. You should do a comparison from state to state. There are several web sites that will give you cost of living stats. If you google "cheapest places to retire" it will send you to some. Land all over AZ is high, we came from N. CA and were very surprised. I think I would stay put if we were in your shoes.

Thanks for the input, we have been checking around Canon City and Fountain Colorado, anyone have any thoughts on these. as far as I have seen it is in the price range and not far from Colorado Springs. I know it is very pretty around there, and you still have a little taste of Minnesota, but not as bad. My husband and I both have wanted to move west since we got married 22 years ago, he had children from his other marriage and couldn't live them behind, I agreed, our hearts are for Colorado but we want to make sure that we can afford living there.
When it gets to hot you can drive up to the mountains to cool off and when you get snow it doesn't stay as long as it does in Minnesota. Great state, we love it.
We don't have anything to keep us here any longer, and family is nonexistance any more. My husband will not be able to go back to work with all his injuries, and we are so excited about leaving this state. People do love this state, we are not one of them, although the winters haven't been as bad as some, we just want out.
If anyone can help on or around those areas let me know, it seems I only get write ins from this state and no one wants to tell you anything from the others. Thanks a bunch!!!!!! You guys are great!!!!!!

A word of caution for you. Most folks that move out of places like MN. and such for warmer temps go to places like canyon city, phoenix, tuscon, etc. and become instantly miserable. Going from 40F to 125F is enough to make anyone sick. Check out the places like Prescott(where I grew up), Chino Valley, Paulden, etc.
I don't care what they say, nobody in Phoenix likes it that **** hot.... I actually watched a guy drop dead on a bicycle in Phoenix, died of heat stroke 5 blocks from his house............

Well I have lived in the Tucson area over 5 years and it has never hit 125! We are not as hot as Phoenix. However what is starting to get to me is the length of the Hot season.
I would like to check out Prescott, but understand that it is really gotten too pricey for out wallets.
Perhaps you might want to check with your doctor about area's that would be good for you to live.

Good idea, I will check when I go in to see him in about a couple weeks.
Thanks everyone. My doctor, I will miss, he has been a great doctor and very helpful, I hope to find another one as good as he is where ever we move to.

I think it is time for your entire family to assimilate and interact with people of other races. If you move to Phoenix and are driving down 5th avenue and Thomas pull over and say hello to all the fine blacks and Mexicans. This is the first step in obvioulsy much needed human development skills!

I didn't say I had a problem with blacks and mexicans, we have them living here, and we have no problems with them. I was just saying that I didn't want another race to out weigh the white population, my daughter goes to school with some of them and has made friends with them, so we don't have a major problem with any race.

Well 125 was rounded off, but as a kid I remember many times when Sky Harbor Airport was closed due to temps exceeding 123F. I guess the thermals on the tar mats would actually crash planes. It was really just more of an example of the extremes and the serious unhappiness that they can present.

Interesting...since the record for Phoenix is 122*.
Oh, and PS, the word is 'tarmac'.

No I assure you the record is higher than that(as if this matters), but the 20 plus years that I spent there I'm sure have nothing on the 5 you have and what the local tv station has recorded as a max high.
Anyway again that was totally not the point. It was just a helpful word to the author of the thread. If any of us can feel a difference between 122 and 125 your not going to leave a temp controlled room anyway.....
P.S. Thanks for the correction "tarmac", Army not Air Force
