Anyway again that was totally not the point. It was just a helpful word to the author of the thread. If any of us can feel a difference between 122 and 125 your not going to leave a temp controlled room anyway.....

P.S. Thanks for the correction "tarmac", Army not Air Force
It was indeed 122. I find it hard to believe that anyone who lived here on that day would forget that number. It was quite an event. I have the T-shirt. I played volleyball in a league that evening. It was still 118 on the court when we started. But, it was a dry heat.

Don't know where you got the 5 year figure...I'm going on my 23rd year here in this delightful desert metropolis!

And yeah, I agree...there ain't any difference between 122 and 125!

I'm really sorry you guys are having such a rough time. I know you want to get out of MN, but I'd encourage you to research different states. Based on the criteria you listed, I can't imagine you'll be happy here. It will be really hard to find affordable housing, the heat isn't always a dry heat - believe me - I grew up in VA where it was humid in the summer and there were many days this summer that made me think I was back in VA. Here, it gets REALLY HOT!!! and you get humidty too. Monsoon is not a fun time of year. Also, if you're looking for a "mostly white" area, you won't find it here....I submit, though, that maybe your daughter would handle it better then you think she would and that being around different races would actually be good for her and help her succeed professionally and personally in the future. I think you'll have a lot more possible relocation options if you'd remove that criteria from your list.

I really do think, though, that you'll suffer tremendously from culture shock, weather shock, and housing sticker shock if you move here.

Maybe a state with a greener environment and cooler weather would be better for you. I have a friend who just moved to a very small town outside Colorado Springs and they adore it. They're on a tight budget too, and have two young kids. I can't remember the name of the town, but if you check google maps, and look for small towns around CO Springs, maybe you'd get some ideas.

Good luck! I really hope everything works out for you guys!

you might consider Fort Collins CO. Ranked top ten in mid sized cities in msnmoney.

it is a very nice town, and might be affordable enough on your income. I'd look to the north side, the south side is all newer and more expensive homes. I liked the north side better as it was less cooky-cutter.

another nice city was Trinidad Co, but I know nothing of it's economics or race/population. But a very nice town!

Good luck!

Thanks for the help, we love the Fort Collins area, just hope that as far as housing goes a person can find one, if not Wyoming is our second choice, and we have been looking there also, we have had better luck in the housing dept. in Wyoming. Colorado is expensive for housing cost. Wyoming is just as pretty, with nice choices, and the right price, for right now we are focusing on Wyoming. Thanks, have a great day!!!!

I think WY is probably a good idea. Lots of white people and fairly cheap.

I am from MN and remember I didn't like living with such little ethnic diversity, but then I was Chinese in a former lifetime, love carne asada burritos, and I speak Spanish. I don't think you'd be happy here. I'm not, but it's for other reasons.

You're not serious, are you? Wyoming is not the place one moves to escape the cold. You get cold AND wind. I think you ought to look at places like Arkansas, S. Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas, Alabama etc. The winters are mild, they have beautful scenery, and the prices for homes are reasonable. I'm not sure what to make of the "white" requirement, but whatever, you can find places of whatever mixture you desire in the south central US.

Umm, I think they have blacks and hispanics in those states. Wyoming is much more white. After all, our beloved **** Cheney is from there, or was a politician there. That, in and of itself, should encourage someone to move to Wyoming.

Thanks for all the help. I don't know how the all white thing came about, but I am not a racist, as far as I am concerned all people are equal, it don't make any difference what color they are.
I do how ever think you should'nt put a white family in an all black neighborhood and visa versa, it would be uncomfortable that's all.
Now getting to the Southern states, I can not deal with the humidity in those states, due to health issues, maybe I should be put six feet under LOL.
I guess Colorado was my first choice, but is now slipping away. Wyoming I guess is because of housing cost and taxes seem with what we can handle.
It would be nice if a person had enough money to just move where ever they choose, but for us, it won't happen unless we can win the lottery.
Some times you have to take what you can get and try to be happy with what you have, as long as I can get out of this cold and humid state, then I guess I will be happy. Please no more racist comments, it is not nice for them or me. Besides there are just as many whites that are bad so no one should be doing any judging.
If anyone has any other good thoughts let me know. Thanks
