to Yorkie Mom
I live with my family 40 miles from Nashville, Tn. We have mild winters no snow to speak of but I want warmer than 20 or 30 or colder. I have 8 yorkies and they don't like this cold but not the heat either. I lost my 2 pound yorkie to stress due to 90 degree heat. I am wanting to move closer to the gulf. Mobile, Al better weather but not on the ocean more inland but the south is less exspensive to live on fixed incomes pay is also less and people are people ,good and bad. Maybe consider the south. |

We have two yorkies also, they don't like to cold either, and neither do I, when you have fibromyalgia and the start of RH you just want to be where it is warm with no humidity.
We are checking into some places in Colorado, that are not to cold, but with what we can afford. We also have been checking into Arkansas, I have no idea some days what we are doing but just know I need to move some where else next summer. I can not make it another winter in Minnesota. Thanks for the help, and we will keep you posted to where we finally decided to move at. Thanks again. |

Hi Yorkimom
I know the feeling. I live in Rushfordd MN and plan on moving to Az in Jan 07. I have a sister that lives in Phoenix. Even she thinks it is too hot. In AZ the temperature is directly related to the altitiude. So far I have spent most of my time looking in the smaller towns around Prescott AZ. I am retired and also on a limited bidget. Check realtor.com for house listings. dwanebw |

Hi, Just wanted to get back to you, Minnesota stinks if you hate the cold, and I know it gets hot in Arizona.
It kinda sounds like your in the same boat as us. I guess when you live in Minnesota it is hard to afford to live out west, since this state don't pay enough to keep up with the states to the west. Good luck on your move, and we will check into that site you posted. Thanks for the help, I hope you can make it out their. Good idea to get out of Minnesota though, take care. Quote:

why? and again, i asked why? are you looking for all/mostly white schools? diversity is the best gift you can offer your children. you dont want to shock them? against what? life, the world, opportunities? i am a successful white woman with mixed children (mixed with a black guy - oh my gosh) and do you know what i look for? diversity. good schools. activities for my children. i want to give my children the gift of culture, the unknown. why shock your young-ens' if you plan on raising them and sending them out into a world that is diverse in nature, by law. i love arizona for it's diversity. i love arizona for what it offers my children as well as myself. black/mexican/asian/indian or whatever other race you may be concerned about living next door to you is thriving with potential.

Angi, I'm curious. Where do you live?
"i love arizona for it's diversity" This is nice to hear and contrary to what is posted elsewhere on this Arizona board. Where does one find diversity in AZ? What does it mean down there? |

We have that here where we live, but we see nothing with putting it out there with what we are comfortable with, we are not against anyone, I believe in giving everyone a chance no matter what race they come from. I do not think anyone would want to be put in a area where you are the only color of choice living there, it would not be comfortable for either side, I see nothing wrong with putting a preference down, it has nothing to do with diversity or being against someone. I hope I have answered this for the last time, and I wish you a very happy life, as I wish for everyone, no matter what color they come in. |

Yorkie-
you might check out Pueblo. The median price of homes is a little over 100k, roughly half of Colorado Springs. The weather is usually a bit warmer. It seems economically depressed, but if you are not looking for employment then that may not matter. Canon City is west of Pueblo and a lot smaller. i know some folks in Pueblo West and like the schools and the area. I don't know about the city schools. There is some gang activity and crime, but that will be the case just about any where. We are in Monument, on the north side of CO Springs. We love it here. The schools are great. The weather is a bit colder in the winter, but nice during summer. Housing is a lot higher here than Pueblo though. I understand your feeling about schools. Where we moved from, 35 percent of elementary kids could not speak English. That's too much diversity for us. Paul |

What is the housing like in your area? Is there anything else you maybe able to share with me as far as the cost of housing, and schools in your area. I was also wondering how they handle signing your child up for school? Here in Minnesota, we don't pay for books, supplies yes, like pencils, paper, notebooks etc. I was wondering what you could tell me about the schools in Colorado, I know this is the wrong state to ask this question in, but for this once, if you could answer my question please. Thank you!!! |

i apologize to you, yorkie_mom. i tend to get on my high horse when i shouldnt. i understand that you want the best for your child/children. tucson has great activities for children, and some are FREE. i come from an area that is so expensive and found that tucson has so many activities for children, as well as adults. dry heat? yep. crime, yes, but if you choose good neighborhoods, all is fine. check out ranchosahuarita.com. great place to live. and so much for children to do. a great place for all ages with reasonable housing prices. the best swimming pool i have found! again, i do apologize, but i do love tucson.
