Default N. East Moving vans to Arizona

Hi me and my girlfriend are planning to move to Arizona from Philadelphia. We had many friends move out there and loved it. We have visited and loved it too. But on this site there always seems be a great deal of negativity about AZ from those that live there. Is this a case of grass is always greener? Or you guys guarding your state from outsiders?

Either way im wondering if there is anyone that has moved cross country and only rented a cargo van. Most major rental companies do not allow cross country van rentals. I have helped people move across country and driven bigger moving trucks but there is no way my girlfriend would want to get behind the wheel of anything bigger than a van. I also dont feel like towing a trailer, plus i think we need a a bit more room. A van would be perfect.
Thanks for your help
