I am a mother of four looking to relocate as my youngest will be going off to college in a couple of years. I live in Columubus, Oh and I just cant stand the winters anymore so I looking to move to a place that it does not snow, or at least so little that driving in bad weather is not an issue.
Here's what I'm looking for in my new town; coffee shops neighborhood taverns organic markets book stores lots of sunny days low humidity "B" movie theaters nearby hiking and bike paths would be nice safety/low crime (of course) and of course, little/no snow Any ideas??? Some places I've considered are Santa Fe/Rio Rancho, Sedona/Prescott AZ, Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill, Tennesse cities, San Antonio/Austin Does my dream town exist? |

Sorry, estaric . . . none of the places you've suggested.
Considering all of your "must haves" . . . my recommendation would be Tucson. Good Luck |

Prescott could fit the bill, with the exception of the "B" Theatres. We don't have neighborhood taverns either, but have a famous "Whiskey Row".

Try the Southwest - Raleigh and the south in general is far too conservative for what you're looking for. (which by the way is similar to what I'm also looking for!) I found it in Boulder, CO, but the winters are COLD there! - Wonderful places for walking, though - in Raleigh NOBODY walks unless it's in a mall!
Good Luck! |

thanks for all the great info!
to newmom530: I've heard that the availability of health care in Sedona is lacking. How do you respond to that? Also, where can you live without needing to hold down three jobs?! |

North central Phoenix. Local taverns, coffee shops everywhere, several mountainous hills for hiking and climbing, lots of bookstores, "b" movie theater near I-17 and Bell Rd., we got trader joes and sprouts and stuff for organic markets... good luck!

B Movies Here is a link that shows the theaters and reviews near and in Gilbert, AZ which is in the east valley of Phoenix. I don't know which ones may have B movies. B movie theater in gilbert az - Google Search Hiking, bike paths I live in Val Vista Lakes in Gilbert which is a wonderful master planned community Val Vista Lakes - Your Community Plenty of activites for kids here including the year round heated junior olympic size pool and a sandy beach pool, all setting on the edge of the lake. Large greenbelt areas for walking, and not too far if you want to go hiking in the mountain areas. coffee shops neighborhood taverns organic markets book stores About 5 minutes drive from my house is the Dana Park shopping center in Mesa. Dana Park Village Square It has a large Barnes and Noble book store Molly Branigans sports bar, which is a popular hang out. There is another tavern opening up very soon in the new phase. About a mile away is Trader Joe's Welcome to Trader Joe's - Your Neighborhood Grocery Store who has a lot of organic food. AJ Fine Foods AJ's Fine Foods Starbucks is across from Dana Park. There are probably a dozen good coffee shops within a one square mile area. Low humidity is anywhere in the Phoenix valley. Safety Gilbert has one of the lowest crime rates in the valley. It is a conservative very friendly family oriented town. This seems like it has most if not all of what you're looking for. |
