First AJ661 you cracked me up!!! I was dying laughing. And yeah, it isn't such a bad place especially for those of us that have known nothing else.
But I have to comment on this statement....

Yeah we do have around 30-40k old timers that transplant themselves into our economy during the cold months, however are we taking into consideration how many of them are Amish or Mennonite? Who aren't really spending much money on our retail or tourism?
Thats kinda funny actually! Think about it... by the time they got their horse and buggies to AZ, the winter in their home state would be almost over.

I was born and raised here in AZ, and I absolutely LOVE our Beautiful State! There are so many different landscapes and lifestyles in our awesome state, I couldn't imagine living anywhere else. I've traveled all over these United States, and I am proud to call AZ my home!

I'm a native Arizonan. Born in Phoenix is 1942 when it was still 'small town', maybe 250,000 people. I have lived all over the state at one time or another and also out of state for varying periods of time. I've lived in Oregon, Nevada, California, Michigan, Idaho and Alaska. Usually not by my choice but following a husband around for his career moves. In between those states I always managed to come back home. I won't be leaving again.

I was born and raised in Yuma and couldn't wait to get out of that darn HEAT. I left when I was 18 and haven't looked back for a single second. I was miserable there! The heat to me is unbearable. In fact there are only two seasons: summer and HELL. Now, when I go back I admire the landscap of the state ...especially the northern part, but I like green and progressiveness and for the most part AZ has NEITHER.

I've lived in the Bay Area, CA and now Colorado and will say: I'm never going back to stay; I don't want to live in HELL.

You can talk to ME when Phoenix has any kind of culture or soul. How about that? Or you can talk to me when our winter is over (which we can take advantage over by skiing/snowmobiling/etc) and youre shackled inside while you swelter from the brutal heat. Yes, it can get humid here, maybe 2-3 weeks of the summer, thats about it. The rest of the time its perfect weather (talkin low 80s and breezy) and we can be outside playing with the kids and not having to worry about getting burned to a crisp. Plus, we can play in the grass and natural lakes, not having to rake the rocks around that you call a "yard". And food? PHOENIX FOOD SUCKS and cant compare to Chicago's. If you want to argue that, well than its 100% apparent youve never been to Chicago or New York or Philly or San Fran and youre just blowin smoke out your butt. Give me a break, you KNOW PHX cant compare to Chicago or New York in ANY sort of manner. And yes, Ive been out of Phoenix, having spent quite some time in Fountain Hills, Carefree, Cave Creek, Chandler, Sedona, Mesa, Scottsdale and a little time in Surprise. There is nothing in AZ that we dont have here, but lots that we have here in IL that AZ doesnt have.

Hmmmm I've visited Chicago several times and LOVED it and also lived in Phoenix for 7 years up until a month ago.

Sorry, but there's no comparison. Chicago beats Phoenix hands-down. Let's forget about the weather and all that crap for a minute, because here's why Chicago is better: It's about 1,000 times more friendlier than Phoenix.

Let me put it this way, I moved to Southern California a month ago and it is way, way friendlier than Arizona. Who would've guessed?????

Chicago is a world-class city with the friendliest people I've ever met. Phoenix is a wannabe big city with snobby phonies. It has nice restaurants and shopping, but that's about it, and most cities offer that so there's not much going for Phx.

One thing I will say since moving to SoCal, I had no idea how bad the air in Phoenix was until I moved here. My sinus problems are GONE and I feel and sleep so much better. The ocean air was the cure. No more sleepless nights, no more sinus pain, no more headaches. You can keep your brown dust desert air.

As for the cold in Chicago, well ... that's why I moved to CA instead of there ... and even CA is cold compared to AZ! I just don't do winters, having grown up in the NYC area which isn't nearly as cold as Chicago. Having said that, I decided ahead of time that if I don't like CA, Chicago will be next.

But after a month, it's been paradise here. The people are much friendlier than in Phoenix (that surprised me given CA's reputation) and the communities and amenities are all much better. Phoenix is a fine place to live if that's all you can afford, but if you can afford better, go to CA or a real city like NY or Chicago.

Sorry you were trapped here for 7 years. It is absolutely amazing the number of people from other cities who come to the Phoenix forum to tell us how unfriendly WE are. If it were true, you'd think it would be us going to other forums to do the bashing.

We're the snobs???? I think you need to take another look in the mirror.

This thread is about how many people are native to Arizona, not how many outsiders think we suck.
