I am loving this rain!! I did not love the snow falling on me in Flagstaff this morning. A very beautiful mountain town, but I could not wait to return to the flatlands.

The facts are: until this last December, the lakes & reservoirs have been at record low levels. Wells were drying up in the rural areas of the state. The threat for wildfires was rampant, even during the off season.

In the past ten years, only the winters of 1997-1998 and 2004-2005 were wetter than normal. All the other winters in the last ten years were practically bone dry ... so we need the moisture. So far, this winter has been pretty average as far as precipitation is concerned. It's not unusually wet, nor unusually dry ... just NORMAL like it should be. The mountains have been getting a decent snowpack which is needed for spring runoff, and the lower elevations have been receiving about the normal amount of rainfall totals that is typical during a winter season.

The only worthwhile thing the "New Times" does is promote the Valley's club scene. Not my definition of a worthy newspaper.

All the facts remain: we're still in a drought. The rain & snow we've been getting lately is helping ... but we really need about four or five wet winters in a row to really end this drought. Meanwhile, I'm enjoying the rain. It sure reduces my water bills!

Be prepared. It's raining like crazy in So Ca right now and it's headed east. Stay safe and don't go crossing any of those wash's with water flowing through them.
