Default More rain on the way.

What a wonderful, wet winter this has been! California is getting drenched again and the storm is headed here. Longer range, it even looks like rain for Superbowl Sunday . Roosevelt Lake will fill up this year and the Colorado is above normal snowpack for the first time in a long time. I was out in the desert this morning and noticed the brittlebush are budding up and the globe mallow and lupine are emerging in places. We are going to have a humdinger of a wild flower show this year.

One more good rain will push everything out this year. It will be a lush year for the desert. It'll be a photographers paradise.

The hills in Bullhead City sort of have a green tint. Oh and the Palm Trees look so alive.

It IS! And of course it's coming for the weekend! Can't stand all this "rain" excitement... I don't remember if it was posted here or I saw it somewhere else, but I a few days ago I read a study proving AZ actually has more water than it knows what to do with! It's being saved instead of planting something nice in Tucson, let's say...

Ask Magnum Mike how to do "nekkid rain dance!" He seems to be very successful at that. Push come to shove, I can send some of ours your way.

Good grief! I don't know where you read that there's more water than we know what to do with. What's the source? The facts are: until this last December, the lakes & reservoirs have been at record low levels. Wells were drying up in the rural areas of the state. The threat for wildfires was rampant, even during the off season.

In the past ten years, only the winters of 1997-1998 and 2004-2005 were wetter than normal. All the other winters in the last ten years were practically bone dry ... so we need the moisture. So far, this winter has been pretty average as far as precipitation is concerned. It's not unusually wet, nor unusually dry ... just NORMAL like it should be. The mountains have been getting a decent snowpack which is needed for spring runoff, and the lower elevations have been receiving about the normal amount of rainfall totals that is typical during a winter season.

Those of you who gripe about the rain should consider relocating to a place like Death Valley or the Sahara Desert, where the average rainfall is less than two inches a year. Better yet, try the Atacama Desert in South America where there is often no rain for years. People who dislike rain shouldn't be moving to the Sonoran Desert because this is actually one of the WETTEST deserts in the world thanks to our two rainy seasons (winter and summer monsoon).
