Want to relocate from Florida!
In my early 40's, work in property management. Where would be a good location in AZ for me? Kids live in Tucson, so it'd be nice to be within an hour or two, but I don't need to be on top of them and my xhusband...I need my space on that one...miss the city life of NYC, where I lived when I was in my 20's....been in FL for too long...My boyfriend is a painter & extremely good golfer, would love probably to work for a golf club. We like to stay home but want the ability to be able to go to a concert, movie, etc....he used to live in scottsdale as a child due to his asthma.....any suggestions?

Sounds like Scottsdale would be a good fit for both of you. You're never going to find the NYC 'city life' here, or anything close to it here, though.
Good luck with golfing job, though, There's not TOO many people who want to live in AZ and have a golfing job!! (wink)
When you say he's painter...as in 'artist', or house painter? If it's the latter, there's a decent market for that. We just hired one a few weeks ago after an exhaustive search for one that could fit us in his schedule.
If it's the former, heck, every other person who retires out here becomes an artist!

Thank you for replying...I've read the threads on AZ and it just sounds worse than living in FL...yikes!
He paints houses! Works for a condo development presently and does "side" jobs at his property as well as the one that I work at...well, so it's good that he could continue the painting gig...I can only imagine the amount of golfing fools.....
I work for a property management firm on a barrier island on the west coast of Florida. What's the business community like in Scottsdale or would I have to commute somewhere else? I helped design & oversaw the construction of my own home on Tampa Bay.....ten years ago so I do have a working knowledge of home construction as well...BA in Advertising from Michigan State University....
Thoughts?

Barrier island? I used to live on Sanibel Island (off of Ft. Myers) back in the 70's. Still have quite a bit of family in that area, although they are one by one moving out of Florida.
Don't get too discouraged from reading these posts. There are some folks on this board who wouldn't say anything positive about AZ if their life depended on it.
I'm certainly no expert in the property mgmt field, but I am in residential construction, so I am indirectly involved with some of the same developers.
With the housing boom here the last few years, it's taken the commercial side some time to catch up, but there does seem to be plenty of new commercial property sitting vacant, waiting for that first tenant.

I work on Longboat Key. My builder was Brent Whitehead...I built my home on (you'll appreciate this...)45 pilings going down about 37 feet with the pool having three pilings itself. I had a fantastic experience as I was on site every day and really got to get into the process.

If and when you come, he might consider starting his own painting contracting business. Working on your own you in the trades have to compete for the bottom of the wage scale with illegals. But if you are business savvy and can sell your services, you can hire the illegals for cheap and make a good profit on them.
PS: I'm serious.

That sounds like the ticket! Any special licensing needs?
