In all honesty Winslow is pretty bleak. It's high desert and usually peaks in the 90's in the summertime and gets cool but not cold in the winter. As far as water, you can swim at Mchood Reservoir in the Summer, which is a very pretty flooded sandstone canyon. La Posada Hotel is beautiful and is one of the few "nice" places to have a meal or get a drink in town. If you're from the southeast you'll be in for a major culture shock. I'd definitely visit before you commit to the postion.

I stopped there about two years ago on the way to ALB. I only did so because of the line in the Eagles song. Man, that place was a big disappointment and depressing. I was there for about 10 min. to take a photo of a sign and that was as long as I ever want to spend there.

Yep, a place to stop for gas between alb and here. The twin smoke stacks always stick out in my mind. Nothing much there. An older town. I wouldnt want to live there though.
Not scenic at all. |

If you have a job, it might not be that bad. Winslow is a barren place with a lot of wind. Sagebrush is the dominant vegetation and there are few trees outside of town. There are a couple of nicer housing areas, but overall its pretty impoverished with high unemployment. There are several mountain communities in pine forests about 30-40 mi south of Winslow where you could live in a log home on an acre or so if you didn't like the Winslow area. It would be a 40 minute drive to work everyday, but no traffic and you can drive like a bat out of h---. Flagstaff is only an hour away on I-40 too. It's different, that's for sure. A visit is a must.

Winslow is bleak and barren and rather downtrodden. The main source of employment there is the State Prison complex.

I lived in Winslow for a while, working for Sambo's. My last visit to Winslow, I was happy to leave Winslow in the rear view mirror. It's not worth living there.
