I didn't say crime wasn't bad - I am asking if it IS bad. Some crime is everywhere, but we don't want to drop in the middle of some crime spree, either.

It's a hard chioce but the answer lies in your personal values and how closely one place or the other aligns with them. Having friends there would make it much nicer.
Well put there; sir!

Especially the friends/support network.

Besides; pasrts of the Kingman area are actually quite attractive--------as pretty as San Diego in their own way

Yes; I lived in Mohave County for several years-----------and, thinking of heading back in a year or two

As for 'culture'; give me ONE good coffee house and some local arts activity and I am good to go.

Maybe that is the 'redneck' talking in me, I do not know.

Smile Right on the money!!! Everyone is different, but I can't see why this lifestyle wouldn't be appealing.

I go out in the morning & there is no frost nor snow just cooler temps from 30-50 but, midday 60s to 70's. I moved here to be close to: CA-Las Vegas,NV-Flagstaff-Phoenix(not far). It is considered the central location to & from many places & states due to major hwys: 40, 93 & 66 that run thru it. Summers occasionally in the 110s & winters I can got outside with just a light jacket or two nice shirts on. THE ONLY BAD POINT IS THE WIND & maybe more stores/restaurants! Otherwise, a nice area. I know many people who have moved here from various places & the majority are from CA. I ask them why they moved from CA & many reply: Away from the traffic, crime, too many people, the noise, etc. They also say, there are no earthquakes or major weather events either--I have to agree. The "Sunrise Over The Music Moutains" picture shown in the Kingman, AZ City-Data Stats Page is what I see almost every morning when I step outside of my front door--I live it, breathe it & love it. The air is unpolluted, dry & basically allergy-free. I could hardly ever leave my house in MI during the winter. I don't miss the seasons nor the green vegetation of the north either. It is also true that when they complete the HooverDamBypass this place is goin' to explode & it is true that many major builders are banking on this concept as well! One more thing, the housing & land prices are falling (as well as every else) but, there won't be a better time to invest in land/housing here in K-man than now cuz, '08 & '09 isn't far away either.
If I spend five min in anywhere California and I want to beat my head against my truck window.

Besides a more rural atmosphere and less congestion what does Kingman have to offer to offset the advantages of San Diego?
not much except cheaper housing, clean air and mountains.

In reference to your quote about allergies, I guess its what you are allergic to.
I Live in Havasu and break out in a rash and get a headache everytime I go to Kingman. The difference in altitude also produces a difference in the type of plants that grow.

Which would put the prison roughly at the edge of Golden Valley...Hmmmm. My sugestion is to carry a BIG gun...LOL(If you go to Birdland....)
I didn't say it wasn't so bad - I said I HOPE it wasn't that bad. There's gonna be crime any place in this country, but I just don't wanna land in a place like I live now where I pull in my driveway and hurry inside cause the teens standing on the street might be up to something. Drugs are rampant and we can't get the police to do anything, and the result is the teens rule with an iron fist. My neighbors daughter was beaten to a pulp because the "thought" she turned them in - she was out of the state when the police picked these guys up, but they were convinced it was her and so they nearly killed her. I just don't want in a neighborhood that's like that, that's all.

Kingman has jobs in construction. not many other types that pay well. It is growing really quickly. Its ok, but it definitely feels a bit on the redneck side everytime I go thru there.

Are you depressed? Seriously, a block from the ocean and you want to come here?

Why in the world would you make such a move?

Beats me under the best of circumstances unless you're forced for financial reasons, but who wouldn't wanna live right next to the trucks going through town to Yucca mountain... Las Vegas SUN: Yucca Mountain: Day Five

It's totally beyond me how people decide to pick up and go somewhere without basic research. At least some info is out in the open nowadays. Of course, these issues may not matter to everybody. And no, I'm not a tree-hugger or anything close, but if I can avoid living in a potentially dangerous area, I would.
