I actually wonder what are the state laws on displaying expired out-of-state plates on the front of a vehicle.

Note that if you order a vanity plate, you will be issued two plates, but installing the front plate is completely optional.

Yes. You cannot put an expired out of state plate on the front. Even though many cops don't waste their time pulling someone over for this violation, it is illegal. I didn't take my front CO plate off my car when moving here and found out first hand from a local cop.

I'm from California where front plates are mandatory. One of the things I enjoy about AZ is that no front plate is required. I used to hate putting front plates on my show cars and would usually just put one on my dash and call it a day.

Why do they send 2 plates if you have a vanity? It seems wasteful. I don't know if I have ever seen anyone display that front plate.

Because license plates, in the front of a classy car, looks tacky.
My 96 Miata doesn't have a place for a front plate, so I never put one on.
I believe that, in MN, you don't need front plates on a pre '73 car.
They have tried to change the law, to allow a single plate, numerous times, but with no success.

Are the older maroon plates still valid to use on vehicles?
